According to *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases): The term "Shan" (Hernia/Cold Pain) refers to pain, which arises from the accumulation and coagulation of Yin Qi. If Yin Qi does not dissipate, Cold Qi becomes excessive; when Cold Qi is excessive, it causes pain. The pain moves up and down without a fixed location. When Cold Qi rushes upward to the Heart, it causes Heart Pain. (From Volume 20)
*Fan Wang Fang*: Da Zhuyu Wan (Major Evodia Pill). It treats cold Shan in the heart and abdomen, rebellious Qi in the chest that occasionally rushes upward causing Heart Pain, irritability, fullness, inability to lie down, aversion to wind in the face and eyes, palpitations and tremors, frequent fright and startle, loss of appetite with vomiting, and alternating chills and fever.
Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu) (half sheng) Asari Radix (Xixin) Paeoniae Radix (Shaoyao) Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu) [Another version uses Peucedani Radix (Qianhu)] Inulae Flos (Xuanjinfang) Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) Asteris Radix (Ziwan) Ginseng Radix (Renshen) Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu)
Poria (Fuling) Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang) Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin) Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi) [Prepared] Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) [Roasted] Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia) [Washed] Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) [Each half liang]
The above sixteen ingredients are crushed, sifted, and mixed with honey to form pills the size of Chinese parasol tree seeds. Take three pills before meals, three times a day. If ineffective, gradually increase the dose. Avoid raw green onions, mutton, maltose, vinegar products, peaches, plums, sparrow meat, pork, raw vegetables, seaweed, and Chinese cabbage. There are no other dietary restrictions. [Another version contains Sichuan Pepper (Shujiao) and lacks Cinnamon Twig (Guixin); another version contains Dried Rehmannia Root (Gandi Huang) and lacks Scutellaria Root (Huangqin), consistent with *Shen Shi Fang*, From Volume 14]
*Duan Ji Fang*: Jieji Shujiao Tang (Urgency-Relieving Sichuan Pepper Decoction). It primarily treats cold Shan Qi, where Heart Pain feels like stabbing, pain surrounds the navel and abdomen completely, cold sweat appears, and the patient feels as if they are about to die.
Sichuan Pepper (Shujiao) (200 pods, perspiration removed) Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi) (one piece, prepared) Oryza Sativa (Jingshi) (half sheng) Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang) (half liang) Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia) (12 pieces, washed)
Ziziphus Jujuba (Dazao)
(20 pieces) Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (one liang, roasted)
The above seven ingredients are chopped, boiled in seven sheng of water until reduced to three sheng, clarified, and taken hot, one sheng at a time. If not cured, take another sheng. Repeated use effectively treats severe, life-threatening heart and abdominal pain, resolving stagnation and expelling cold, providing relief for pain throughout the body. Avoid pork, mutton, maltose, seaweed, and Chinese cabbage. (*Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang*, *Gu Jin Lu Yan*, and *Fan Wang Fang* lack Gancao, otherwise identical; *Jing Xin Lu* is also identical, From Volume 1)
*Gu Jin Lu Yan*: Mudan Wan (Moutan Pill) for treating Heart Pain and cold Shan.
Moutan Cortex (Mudan) [Heart removed] Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin) [Two liang each] Aconiti Radix (Wutou) (two pieces, prepared)
The above three ingredients are powdered, mixed with honey, and formed into pills the size of soybeans. Take three pills on an empty stomach in the morning, twice a day. If ineffective, gradually increase the dose. The medicine is potent and urgent; it is better to take less. It also treats Dunshi (Hidden Corpse Disease) attacks. Wutou and Fuzi can be omitted but must be prepared if used. Avoid Coriandrum Sativum (Husui), pork, cold water, and raw green onions. (From Volume 8)
