The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states that infants, having not yet been exposed to frost and snow, do not contract Shanghan (Cold Damage). Adults, having been separated from the womb for a long time, may suffer from cold injury, which is a different matter. However, regarding Tianxing Bing (Seasonal Epidemic Diseases) caused by irregular climatic factors, infants are also susceptible. In years when seasonal epidemics occur, some infants develop maculopapular rashes shortly after birth. The treatment principles for these seasonal diseases are the same as those for adults, except that the dosages of herbs are slightly smaller and the medicinal properties are slightly cooler.
Another prescription for treating infant Shanghan:
Sheng Ge Zhi (Fresh Kudzu Juice), Dan Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap) (each 6 fen).
Mix the above two ingredients. For children aged two or three, divide into three doses. Do not boil; it is best taken raw.
Another prescription for infants under one hundred days old suffering from Shanghan with epistaxis, fever, and vomiting:
Maimen Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) (3 fen), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart) (8 zhu), Hanshui Shi (Calcitum), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (crushed), Gancao (Licorice Root) (roasted, each 2 fen).
Chop the above five herbs. Add 2.5 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 1 sheng of liquid. Divide into doses of 1 he, taken three times daily.
Another prescription for infant Shanghan, Shaoyao Siwu Jieji Tang (Peony Four-Ingredient Muscle-Releasing Decoction):
Shaoyao (Peony Root), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Gegen (Kudzu Root) (each 2 fen).
Chop the above herbs. Add 2 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 9 he of liquid. Strain and divide into four doses. For children over one year old, divide into three doses. (All from Volume 5)
Guangji Fang (Guangji Prescriptions) treats infant Tianxing with high fever, cough, and chest/abdominal distension:
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root) (roasted, each 1 fen), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmannia Root), Maimen Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) (core removed), Maogen (Imperata Rhizome) (each 6 fen).
Chop the above five herbs. Add 2 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 7 he of liquid. Strain and administer warm in appropriate amounts according to the child's condition. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
Another prescription:

Chop the above eight herbs. Add 2 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 8 he of liquid. Divide into doses. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
Qianjin Fang treats infants with heat but no sweating using Erwei Tonghan San (Two-Ingredient Sweating Powder):
Leiwuan (Polyporus Umbellatus), Fen (Rice Flour) (half jin).
Pound and sieve the above herbs. Apply the powder to the infant's body until sweating occurs and the condition resolves.
Another prescription for infants aged one to five months experiencing alternating chills and fever:
Finely chop willow branches, decoct to obtain juice, and use to wash the infant for immediate effect. If thirsty, administer juice extracted from winter melon.
