[Etiology] Chuang (sores/ulcers) arises from the deficiency of the skin and interstices, where wind-dampness pathogens invade and obstruct the blood and qi, leading to condensation and aggregation. It commonly occurs on the hands and feet, sometimes appearing symmetrically or alternately, resembling newly formed fruits of *Evodia rutaecarpa* (Wuzhuyu). Patients experience pain and itching; scratching leads to ulceration with yellow exudate. The lesions spread, grow, crack, fluctuate between remission and exacerbation, and may transform into parasitic infestations, hence the name "Chuang" (sores/ulcers). (From Volume 35)
*Shenshi Fang* (Deep Master's Formulas) for treating Chuang:
Burn Jingshu (*Celtis sinensis* twig) to obtain juice and apply it topically for cure. (Same as emergency rescue method.)
Another prescription:
Moxibustion around the periphery of the sore is most effective. (Both from Volume 29)
*Jiyan Fang* (Collected Proven Prescriptions) for treating Chuang:
Take one sheng (approx. 200ml) of Kujiu (vinegar), heat until boiling. Add a handful of raw Jiucai (*Allium tuberosum*), mash, and apply to the sore for cure. (Same as recorded by Fan Wang.)
Another prescription:
Xionghuang (Realgar, 1 liang) Huangqin (*Scutellariae Radix*, 2 liang) Songzhi (Pine Rosin, 2 liang) Fahuui (Ash of human hair, size of a bullet)
Grind the above four ingredients together with Baigao (ointment/pig fat) and Songzhi (pine rosin). Apply topically to the sore. (Fan Wang and Wen Zhong's *Beiji Fang* use Huanglian instead, otherwise similar.)
Another prescription:
Luanfa (tangled hair) and Tougou (scalp dirt/scalp sebum) in equal parts; Luoke (conch shell, 20 pieces), calcined. Mix with pig lard rendered in the twelfth lunar month (Layue) to form a paste. Apply topically. (Same as Fan Wang.)
Another prescription:
Yangzhizhu hua (*Daphne odora* flowers, 3 sheng). Soak in water for half a month, filter out dregs, and wash the sore with the juice. Alternatively, roast Yangzhizhu hua and apply to the sore to expel parasites. (Same as Fan Wang.)
Another prescription:
Taohua (peach blossom) and Yan (salt) in equal parts. Thoroughly pound熟 (cook/process), mix with Cu (vinegar), and apply topically. (Same as Fan Wang.)
Another prescription:
Zaojia (Gleditsia sinensis fruit pod, 10 pieces). Boil in 4 sheng of Kujiu (vinegar), filter dregs, and simmer until thick like malt syrup. Apply topically. (Same as Fan Wang.)
Another prescription:
Use one new clay pot. Place one he (approx. 20g) of Jishi (chicken feces) inside. Decoct with wine until it forms an ointment. Apply topically.
Another prescription:
Gumu baizhi (white sap of Gumu tree, 1 he) Kujiu (vinegar, 2 he) Xiaosuan (small garlic, 0.5 he) Fuyue xia tu (soot from the bottom of the cauldron, 1 he)
Mix the above four ingredients into a paste for application. Reapply when dry. (All from Volume 8, same as Fan Wang.)
*Shanfan Fang* (Abridged Complexity Formulas) for Luoke Gao (Conch Shell Ointment) for Chuang:
Luoke (conch shells, 14 pieces, rotten ones preferred) Luanfa (tangled hair, calcined to ash) Tougou (scalp dirt) Longdan (*Gentianae Radix*, powdered)
Take equal parts of the above four ingredients, grind into powder. Mix with Youdian (oil sediment aged for three years) for topical application. Adding Nifen (calomel/mercurous chloride) is superior.
Another prescription for Chuang with excessive discharge:
Shuiyin (Mercury, 8 fen, ground in palm with saliva until incorporated for medicinal use) Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*, 8 fen) Hufen (Lead carbonate, 8 fen, roasted until yellow)
Grind Huanglian into powder, mix with the other powders, and apply to the sore. (All from Volume 29)
