[Pathogenesis] Sores that fail to heal for a long time are caused by the deficiency of skin and interstices (pores), leading to the stagnation of wind-dampness, and the growth of parasites between muscles. This results in frequent itching and pain, thus preventing healing over a long period. (From Volume 35)
*Guangji Fang* prescription for treating sores that fail to heal for a long time.
Roast fermented soybean (Douchi) until extremely dry, then grind into powder. First, wash the sore with rice water and dry it. Mix the powder with raw sesame oil, apply to the affected area, and wrap with an oil-treated cloth sheet. Open after three days; if not healed, reapply. Stop when healed.
Another prescription for various sores persisting for years, resembling carbuncles on the hand, with increasing itching and failure to heal. Long-standing sores may harbor "carbuncle worms." *Lilu Gao* (Veratrum Ointment).
*Lilu* (Veratri Radix, 6 fen) *Huanglian* (Coptidis Rhizoma, 8 fen) *Fanshi* (Alumen, boiled until liquid is exhausted) *Songzhi* (Pini Resin) *Xionghuang* (Realgar, ground, each 8 fen) *Kushen* (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, 6 fen)
Grind the above six herbs, sieve through fine silk. Decoct with 2 sheng of lard. When the ointment is ready, remove dregs. Add powdered Realgar and Alumen, mix well. Apply when solidified. This treats various sores persisting for years, or those weeping fluid without forming scabs despite extensive treatment. It is also effective for scabies and head sores.
- Heat sores: characterized by white pus appearing upon onset.
- Yellow rotting sores: shallow lesions exuding yellow fluid, similar to favus.
- Spreading sores: shallow lesions with yellow fluid, spreading indefinitely upon scratching.
- Gan sores: preferentially occurring on opposing surfaces of hands and feet, painful and itchy with fissures, improving in spring and summer. (Consistent with *Jiyan Fang*)
Another prescription
Chop branches and leaves of *Yangtao* (Actinidia arguta).
Decoct this single herb in water and wash the affected area 3–4 times.
Liu Juanzi's *Wuhuang Gao* (Five Yellows Ointment) for chronic scabies, tinea, and various malignant sores/toxins.
*Xionghuang* (Realgar, 2 liang, ground) Disordered hair (size of a chicken egg, burnt) *Huanglian* (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 liang) *Huangbai* (Phellodendri Cortex, 2 liang) *Huangqin* (Scutellariae Radix, 2 liang) *Qingmuxiang* (Aucklandiae Radix, 2 liang) *Jishe Xiang* (Styrax, 1 liang) *Baizhi* (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 2 liang) *Yelangbazǐ* (Semen Cichorii, 40 pieces) *Ci Huang* (Orpiment, 2 liang, ground)
Chop the above ten herbs. Soak in half a sheng of vinegar overnight. Decoct with 3 sheng of lard from the twelfth lunar month. Remove the hair after boiling 3–4 times. Add other herbs, boil for another 3 times, then stop. Strain out dregs. Apply ointment to sores five times daily. (From Volume 5)
Cui Shi's prescription for sores persisting for years, where exudate infiltrates surrounding healthy tissue, turning it into new sores. The sores are red-black, intensely itchy, and weep upon scratching.
*Huanglian* (Coptidis Rhizoma) *Huangbai* (Phellodendri Cortex) *Shixin* (Fermented Soybean Heart, each 3 fen, ground to powder; alternative versions add Radish seed or Almond equal to Coptidis) *Hufen* (Lead Carbonate) *Shuiyin* (Mercurius) Youzhi (Animal Fat/Oil)
Mix the last three ingredients into a paste-like consistency. If concerned about Mercurius not dispersing, grind it finely with saliva in the palm until dispersed. Then mix with Hufen and apply to the sore. Finally, dust with Huanglian powder. These sores often have yellow exudate; change dressing once the fluid penetrates. Continue until healed. (From Volume 5)
