Chapter: Two Formulas for Pi Masses and Emaciation / Four Formulas for Pi Masses
Category: Formulas
[Original Text Processing]
Streamlined formulas to treat Pi masses (abdominal lumps/masses), emaciation, and wasting. Ointment and Marrow Wine Formula.
Pork fat ointment (3 sheng) Beef marrow (2 sheng) Vegetable oil (5 sheng) Ginger juice (3 sheng) Fresh Rehmannia root juice (3 sheng) Angelica sinensis root (4 fen)
Sichuan pepper (4 fen, juice extracted) Evodia fruit (5 he) Cinnamon twig heart (5 fen) Ginseng root (5 fen) Schisandra berry (7 fen) Ligusticum wallichii rhizome (Chuanxiong) (5 fen) Dried Rehmannia root (7 fen) Polygala root bark (5 fen)
Cut the above fourteen medicinal materials. Pound nine of them, sift into powder. Take the five types of juices including ointment and marrow, add one dou of water, and decoct together with the juices. Decoct until both the water and medicinal juices are completely consumed, leaving only the ointment residue. Let it cool slightly. Add the powdered medicine, stir to mix well. Boil over fire three times (heating and cooling cycles). Store in a dry vessel to solidify. When cold, cut into square cakes of one cun per side. Warm one sheng of clear wine and take the ointment cake with it. Take twice during the day and once at night. This not only treats Pi masses but also manages various diseases. Avoid raw green onions and Coriander seeds.
Another formula is Goji Berry Powder.
Goji berries (5 sheng) Dried ginger (5 liang) Atractylodes macrocephala rhizome (5 liang) Evodia fruit (1 sheng) Sichuan pepper (3 he, juice/sweat extracted) Tangerine peel (5 liang)
Cut the above six medicinal materials. Pound five of them, sift three times into powder. Store the Goji berries in a dry porcelain vessel. Grind and sun-dry as if making rice flour. Sun-dry for seven days; sun-dry once and grind once. Mix with the previously prepared medicinal powder and grind again. Take one fangcun bi (a measure of volume) according to meals or wine intake, taken with wine or food. If taken for three years in this manner, it not only treats various diseases but also nourishes Yang Qi. (All from Volume 5)
Guangji Fang treats Pi Qi (masses/qi stagnation) with fullness and obstruction in both hypochondriac regions.
Achyranthes bidentata root (Niuxi) (10 fen) Platycodon grandiflorus root (Jiegeng) (8 fen) Peony root (Shaoyao) (8 fen) Immature bitter orange (Zhishi) (8 fen) Ginseng root (Ren Shen) (6 fen) Atractylodes macrocephala rhizome (Baizhu) (8 fen) Turtle shell (Biejia) (8 fen) Poria sclerotium (Fuling) (8 fen) Terminalia chebula peel (Helilepi) (8 fen) Bupleurum root (Chaihu) (6 fen) Rhubarb root and rhizome (Dahuang) (10 fen) Cinnamon twig heart (Guixin) (6 fen)
Pound and sift the above twelve medicinal materials. Mix with honey to make pills the size of Chinese walnut seeds. Take on an empty stomach with wine or ginger soup. Start with 20 pills, taken twice daily. Gradually increase to 30 pills. If diarrhea occurs frequently, reduce the dose at your discretion. The goal is mild laxation. Avoid raw, hard-to-digest, greasy foods, and Amaranth leaves. (One variant uses Five-leaved Acanthopanax bark instead of Ginseng, from Volume 2)
Qianjin Yi Fang treats Pi masses persisting for ten years.
Peach kernel (Taoren) (6 sheng) Fermented soybean (Chi) (6 sheng) Sichuan pepper (Shu Jiao) (3 liang) Dried ginger (Ganjiang) (3 liang)
First pound the Peach kernels into a paste-like consistency, pounding for a thousand strokes. If too dry, add a little honey and pound until moldable. Take three pills on an empty stomach with wine, sized like a sour jujube. Take three times daily. (The original formula below includes a hot compress method, which is not recorded here, from Volume 19)
Cui Shi treats Pi accumulation with cold, where attacks feel like being pierced by awls or knives, with pathogenic factors wandering back and forth.
Aconite root (Wutou) (8 fen, processed) Ginseng root (Renshen) (8 fen) Cinnamon twig heart (Guixin) (8 fen) Prepared Aconite lateral root (Fuzi) (8 fen, processed) Dried ginger (Ganjiang) (8 fen) Halloysitum rubrum (Chishizhi) (8 fen) Cinnabar (Zhusha) (3 fen, ground)
Pound and sift the above seven medicinal materials. Mix with honey to make pills the size of Chinese walnut seeds. Take seven pills with warm wine, gradually increasing the dose up to ten pills.
Another formula to treat Pi masses.
Rat feces (Shushi) (1 he, fried until yellow)
Boil one he of Rat feces in two sheng of water for five or six boils. While hot, filter to obtain the juice. Place in a bowl, quickly add one xiao liang of Nuo Sha (Ammonium chloride), cover, and leave overnight. The next morning at dawn, warm and divide into two doses. Take slightly later after eating. No dietary restrictions. (One variant uses Zhusha/Cinnabar instead of Nuo Sha, from Volume 7)
