The method for treating malaria from *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold).
Before the onset of symptoms, hold a large rooster in one's arms, startling it occasionally to make it cry loudly within the embrace; there is no case that will not be cured. (This method is also recorded in Volume 10 of *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Kept Up One's Sleeve)).
The method for treating malaria from Cui Shi's Book.
At dawn before sunrise, hold one's breath and write talismans. First, write "Dai Jiutian" (Wearing the Nine Heavens) on the forehead; next, write "Ba Jiujiang" (Holding the Nine Rivers) on the palms of both hands; then write on the back, starting from below the right scapula towards the left, dividing into two lines, exactly as described in the following method: "There is a tree in the southern mountain, under which water does not flow; in the water there is a fish with three heads and nine tails." Using the aforementioned method neither harms people nor fails to cure. If one attempt at writing is not quite accurate, it may be rewritten. The talisman must not have missing or misplaced strokes, nor should it be over-inked to the point of illegibility. Additionally, avoid consuming the Five Pungent Spices (Allii Macrostem Bulbus, Allii Sativi Bulbus, Allii Tuberosi Bulbus, Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, and Asafoetida). (Regarding the method of writing malaria talismans, Master Man from Luzhou transmitted that it is ineffably wonderful; I have used the following two methods with efficacy.)
Another method
Instruct the patient to lie facing true north-south before the onset of symptoms, with the head pointing south. On seven locations—the five acupoints of the palms and soles, plus the forehead and tongue—hold one's breath and write the character "Gui" (Ghost); the illness will cease. Afterwards, the patient may face east or west as they please. (This method is consistent with *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*).
Another method
Write a total of eight lines. The lower seven lines follow the previous format exactly, totaling eight lines. "Shan Ti Zi, Shan Ti Zi, Shan Ti Zi, Shan Ti Zi," counting according to the previous method, there are seven more lines, making eight lines in total. This talisman suppresses the Malaria Ghost, driving it away for a thousand li. "Urgently obey the law." A decree from [Year] [Month] [Province] [County] [Township] [Village], Name: [Name], where the name refers to the afflicted person. Hold the talisman with your hand without opening it; men use the left hand, women use the right hand. Wait until a significant amount of time has passed after the episode, then you may open it. Burn the talisman afterwards.
Method for chanting against malaria.
On the day the disease manifests, before sunrise, take a stone to the riverbank and chant in one breath: "KT KT Tuantuan, traveling is not difficult, capture the Malaria Ghost..."
The method for treating malaria collected by Vice Minister Yuan Xisheng in his verified prescriptions.
Write two gold characters "Zhong" (Double/Heavy) on the forehead, two fire characters "Bing" (Together) on the chest, two water characters "Bing" on the back, the wood character "Dan" (Single) on both hands, and the earth character on each foot sole. Below, form four mouth characters "Kou" together to create the character "Zhong". Moisten the right mouth with water, hold breath, and write using cinnabar. Writing this before the onset of symptoms yields results.
