[Etiology] Lower back pain refers to pain caused by sudden injury to the waist. This is due to damaged blood (stasis) obstructing the dorsal spine. If left untreated for a long time, it causes shortness of breath and pallor, resulting from damage to the Kidney. (From Volume 5)
Fan Wang's prescription for lower back pain with blood stasis and unbearable pain:
Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, Cassia Twig)
Grind the above single herb into powder. Mix with vinegar (Ku Jiu) and apply to the painful area. This method encourages rest in bed and can be used frequently. Reapplication will surely lead to recovery.
Another prescription for umbilical and lower back pain:
Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix)
Crush and juice the above single herb to obtain three sheng. Decoct until two sheng remain. Add one sheng of honey and decoct together for three to five boils. Take one sheng daily, or consume all three sheng within one day. Discontinue when cured. Highly effective.

Sangjisheng (Taxilli Herba) (2 liang), Danpi (Moutan Cortex) (2 liang, remove heart), Lurong (Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum) (2 liang, roasted), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) (2 liang)

[Etiology] In cases of labor-induced injury, Kidney Qi is deficient. The Kidneys govern the waist and legs, and their meridians pass through the Kidneys and connect to the spine. Wind pathogen enters the Kidney meridian suddenly due to deficiency, causing sudden lower back pain. (From Volume 5)
