破乌鸡热敷之。
From *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Handbook of Prescriptions for Emergencies), a formula for treating snake bites where the wound has healed, but residual toxins remain in the flesh causing lingering pain and itching.
Take one sheng each of large and small garlic, pound them together, pour hot water over the mixture to extract the juice, and irrigate the wound with this juice (this method is identical to that of Yao).
Cui Shi's effective formula for treating snake bites.
Raw Sichuan pepper (3 liang) Good fermented soybean paste (4 liang)
Mix the above two ingredients with human saliva, pound until soft and well-combined, and apply to the injured area; it will heal in a short while.
Another formula
Take a single-clove garlic, cut off both ends, place it on the bite site, form moxa cones on one end, and moxibustion should be applied. This will lead to recovery; if not fully healed, continue moxibustion until cured.
Another formula
Take *Herba Siegesbeckiae* (Ye Lang Ya Cao); use the leaves before June and the roots after June. Chew fresh [or process fresh], wrap with leaves. Heat by roasting/fire, apply while hot, and replace when it cools.
Another formula
Take *Caosu* (a herb resembling vinegar-flavored grass), cook thoroughly, pound it, and apply to the bite site. Wrap the area securely, changing frequently. This *Caosu* resembles young, tender, fresh shoots just sprouting.
Another formula
Chew *Radix Polygalae* (Yuan Zhi) until crushed and apply to the affected area. Also insert a piece into the hole of the bitten wound, changing it frequently. (All these formulas are from Volume 5.)
Emergency rescue formula for snake venom.
Realgar (Xiong Huang) Musk (She Xiang) Dried Ginger (Gan Jiang)
Pound and grind the above three ingredients in equal parts. Mix with honey to form a paste. Apply to the snake-bitten area; this is excellent. In tiled houses where snakes might be suspected, burn Realgar until the smoke disperses; the snakes will flee continuously.
Another formula
Pound single-clove *Herba Siegesbeckiae* (Ye Lang Ya). Mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month. Apply to the venomous injury; it heals immediately.
Another formula
Place leaves of *Elaeagnus* (Jing Ye) in a bag and apply to the swollen wound area; it will heal and stop swelling. (Identical to *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*.)
*Dujuan Fang* formula for treating bites from green-scaled snakes in bamboo forests.
Realgar (Xiong Huang) Dried Ginger (Gan Jiang)
Pound and sieve the above two ingredients in equal parts. Mix with [She] Gao (likely referring to a specific binder or toxic plant extract, text incomplete here) and carry in a small bamboo tube. Use immediately to apply to wounds in emergencies; it also treats various snake venoms.
Discussion on green-scaled snakes in *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*: This snake is truly green, preferring green trees and bamboo, blending in with their color. People often do not notice it suddenly. If one walks in the woods, it may fall on the head or back. However, it does not usually bite people; if it does bite, death is certain. How can one allow it to repeatedly exert its venom? These snakes are no larger than four or five chi long. The world calls them... [Text breaks off] Apply hot compress using broken black chicken.
