The etiology stems from wind-heat pathogens invading the Kidney Meridian (Kidney Channel), where the pathogenic factors flow into the genital region of the Kidney. Due to the failure of dispersion and circulation, swelling ensues. (From Volume IV)
Jiyan Fang (Collected Proven Prescriptions) for treating male scrotal swelling as large as a bean sprout or fist, accompanied by severe pain that is incurable by ordinary means:
Take one liang of Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄), grind it into powder, wrap it in cotton cloth. Take one chi of raw Licorice Root (Gancao, 甘草), cut into pieces, and decoct with ten dou of water until two sheng of liquid remain. Use this liquid to wash the affected area. Avoid consuming Seaweed (Haizao, 海藻) and Brassica vegetables (Songcai, 菘菜).
Another prescription:
Mash the roots of Amaranth (Xiancai, 苋菜) and apply externally. (Same as recorded by Fan Wang and Qianjin Fang)

Remove the skin and tips of Peach Kernels (Taoren, 桃仁), roast them, and grind into powder. Take orally with wine, in a dose equivalent to a bullet pellet. Recovery occurs within three doses. (Same as Qianjin Beiji Fang, from Volume VII)
Gujin Luyian (Records of Experiences Through Ages) for treating swelling as large as a bean sprout/fist:
Burn chicken wings to ash, take orally with water. Wings with two hairs growing from a single follicle are preferred. If swelling is on the left, use the left wing; if on the right, use the right wing; if bilateral, use both wings. (Qianjin Fang for pediatric testicular swelling from Volume XLI)
Etiology: Shan disease (Hernia/Scrotal disorder) refers to pain caused by Qi stagnation. Many sinews converge at the genital organs. When pathogens invade the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian (Liver Channel) and Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian (Gallbladder Channel), and contend with cold Qi, it results in genital pain and contraction/tethering. (From Volume IV)
Wen Zhong's prescription for sudden retraction of the scrotum into the abdomen, with acute pain nearly causing death, termed Yin Shan (Yin Hernia):
Wild Dittany Root (Yelangdu, 野狼毒) four liang, roasted; Fangkui Root (Fangkui, 防葵) one liang; Prepared Aconite Root (Fuzi, 附子) two liang, processed.
Grind the above three herbs into powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of Chinese wheat berries. Take three pills with wine, three times during the day and twice at night. (Same as Gujin Luyian and Fan Wang, from Volume VII)
Wen Zhong and Ge Shi's prescription for sudden swelling and pain of the male genitals:
