中)
Etiology: Wind pathogen invades the Foot-Yangming Meridian and Hand-Taiyang Meridian. Upon encountering cold, the sinews become tense and pull on the cheek, resulting in facial paralysis (Koupi). Symptoms include slurred speech and the inability to gaze straight ahead. If the pulse is floating and slow, the condition is treatable. The *Yangsheng Fang* states: When sleeping, there should be no openings near the ears; otherwise, wind may enter the ear, predisposing one to facial paralysis. (From Volume I)
Guangji Formula: A prescription for treating wind affecting the mouth and face, causing speech impediments and limited mobility.
Sheng Dihuang Zhi (Fresh Rehmanniae Radix Juice, 1 Sheng)
Zhuli (Bamboo Sap, 1 Sheng)
Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, 3 Liang, sliced)
Mix the above three ingredients and decoct to obtain 1 Sheng of liquid. Take it all at once. If symptoms persist, administer another dose. No dietary restrictions apply. (From Volume I)
Shenshi Xuming Tang: Treats various conditions caused by stroke, including facial paralysis, trismus (lockjaw), sudden death with loss of consciousness. It is a divine formula for tonifying deficiency and restoring spirit.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix)
Mufangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix)
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, nodes removed)
Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix)
Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma)
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried)
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix)
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [Each: 1 Liang]
Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex)
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) [Each: 2 Liang]
Da Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 piece, processed)
Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 5 Liang)
Cut the above twelve herbs. Decoct in 1 Dou 2 Sheng of water until 3 Sheng remains. Divide into three doses. If not cured, prepare again. Avoid consuming Haizao (Sargassum), Songcai (Brassica vegetables), pork, raw Cong (Allium fistulosum), Tao (peach meat), Li (plum meat), and Que (sparrow meat).
Another Prescription: For stroke causing facial deviation, pain and tension in the mandible (Yache), and inability to move the tongue.
Muli (Ostreae Concha, calcined)
Fanshi (Alumen, burned until juice is exhausted)
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed)
Zaozhong Huangtu (Yellow Earth from the Hearth)
Grind the above four ingredients in equal parts into powder. Mix with the comb blood of a three-year-old male rooster and apply to the affected side. Keep a mirror and water nearby to monitor. Wash off the blood immediately once symmetry is restored. Failure to remove it promptly will lead to excessive treatment that cannot be reversed. (Also recorded in *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* and Fan Wang's works, From Volume IX)
Qianjin Fuzi San: Mainly treats stroke-induced numbness in the arms and facial paralysis.
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed)
Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) [Each: 5 Liang]
Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma)
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix)
Renshen (Ginseng Radix)
Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) [Each: 6 Liang]
Grind the above six herbs into powder. Administer 1 Fangcunbi with wine, three times daily. Gradually increase the dosage. Avoid pork, cold water, raw Cong (Allium fistulosum), and raw vegetables.
Another Prescription: For correcting facial deviation.
Take one bean-sized piece of Kongqing (Azurite) and hold it in the mouth; the condition will heal. (Also in Fan Wang's work)
Another Prescription: For sudden stroke causing facial paralysis.
Take a reed tube 5 Cun long. Insert one end into the ear canal of the healthy side. Seal the surrounding area tightly with flour paste to prevent air leakage. Place one soybean at the other end along with moxa, ignite, and moxa for 7 Zhuans (moxa cones). The condition will heal. If the right side is affected, moxa the left; if the left side is affected, moxa the right. (Not transmitted in *Qianjin Fang*)
Another Prescription
Moxa the crossing vessels on the hand for 3 Zhuans. Moxa the right for left-sided disease, and the left for right-sided disease. The smoke should resemble rat droppings, placed horizontally. Ignite both ends.
Another Prescription
Stir-fry 3 Sheng of soybeans until charred. Pour 3 Sheng of wine over them to extract the juice. Take in one dose.
Another Prescription
Take 5 Liang of large Zaojia (Gleditsiae Fructus), remove skin and seeds, and sieve. Mix with 3-year-old mature vinegar. Apply to the unaffected side (if the right side deviates, apply to the left; if the left deviates, apply to the right). Reapply when dry. (All from Volume VIII)
