The Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (Zu Shao Yin Shen Jing) is the convergence point of numerous meridians, and its Qi communicates with the ear. If this meridian is deficient, Wind Pathogen (Feng Xie) may invade it. When Wind enters the meridians of the ear, it causes obstruction and stagnation of meridian Qi, resulting in Wind Deafness (Feng Long). As Wind travels along the Qi pathways to the head and brain, it causes deafness accompanied by intermittent headache; hence, it is termed Wind Deafness. (From Volume 29)
Cui Shi’s Formula for Treating Ear Wind Deafness with Stiff Jaw and Inability to Open the Mouth.
Take eight-cornered Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 2 pieces), soak them in strong vinegar for two nights until thoroughly moistened. Trim one end and insert into the ear. Apply moxibustion (Jiu Fa) fourteen moxa cones on top, allowing the heat to penetrate the ear, which will lead to recovery. (From Volume 4)
Gujin Lu Yan’s Formula for Treating Chronic Wind Deafness with Tinnitus Using Carp Brain Ointment.
Fresh male carp brain (8 fen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 6 zhu), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 6 zhu), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 6 zhu), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 6 zhu), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 6 zhu).
Chop the above six ingredients, combine with carp brain, and decoct. Boil three times, adding ingredients at each stage. When the ointment emits a fragrant aroma, it is ready. Filter out the dregs, cool, and insert an amount the size of a jujube pit into the ear, blocking it with cotton wool until cured.
Another Formula:
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) in equal parts.
Pound these two ingredients, wrap in cotton cloth, and insert into both ears until cured.
Qianjin Formula for Treating Deafness with Pus Discharge.
Haiqiaoxiao (Sepiae Endoconcha, remove shell and roast), Fudi Mo (Soot from the pot bottom, 2 fen each), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 4 fen, processed), Yuyuliang (Halloysitum Rubrum, 1 fen), Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Frontalis, 2 fen), Fulonggan (Caulis Arenis Ustus, 2 fen).
Pound the above six ingredients into powder. Take an amount the size of a soap pod seed, wrap in cotton cloth, and insert into the ear. Change once daily until cured. If parasites are present, add Moschus (She Xiang, 1 bean-sized amount).
Another Formula:
Pound Guipi (Cinnamomi Cortex) into powder, mix with fish grease, and insert into the ear. Repeat no more than three or four times. (All from Volume 6)
Bixiao Formula for Treating Deafness with Pus Discharge.
Liyichang (Cyprini Carassii Intestinum, 1 set, chopped), Cu (Vinegar, 3 he).
Mash the above two ingredients together, wrap in cloth, and insert into both ears for the duration of two meals. There will be a sensation of stuffiness and pain, and white worms will emerge. Replace with a new preparation. Continue until all worms are expelled, then stop. Recovery will follow. If no new preparation is available, remove the worms and reuse the old one, which remains effective. (Same as Qianjin Fang)
