The etiology stems from the deficiency of Qi and blood, where pathogenic factors of wind-cold-dampness-toxicity invade. The pathogens travel alongside the blood in the skin and interstices (skin pores and connective tissue), causing an excess of evil Qi and a scarcity of healthy Qi. Consequently, the flow of Qi and blood becomes stagnant; stagnation leads to Bi syndrome (obstruction syndrome characterized by pain or numbness), and deficiency leads to weakness, thus resulting in Bi-weakness symptoms. (From Volume 13)
*Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Kept Up the Sleeve) treats Hongxiangjiao (Foot Qi disease): This disease initially originated in the Lingnan region and gradually spread to the Jiangdong region. It appears without gradual onset; sometimes there is only slight pain and numbness, or a feeling of fullness in both calves, or sudden flexion and weakness when walking.
If the condition is urgent, first take one *dou* of high-quality fermented soybeans (Douchi). Steam them three times and sun-dry them three times. Soak them in three *dou* of fine wine for three nights, then drink as tolerated according to the patient's constitution. It is best to prepare this in advance.
If waiting for soaking is not possible, boil the fermented soybeans in wine and have the patient drink it. Apply the dregs to the feet. This will slightly alleviate the condition, after which other medicated wines, pastes, and soups can be prepared for moxibustion or heat therapy. (Same content as Wen Zhong's *Beiji Fang*)
Another formula: Duhuo Wine.
*Duhuo Radix* (Wu Liang, sliced) *Fuzii Lateralis Radix Preparata* (Wu Liang, raw, peeled, broken)
These two ingredients are soaked in one *dou* of wine for three nights. Start taking one *ge*, increasing until a slight numbing sensation is felt. Avoid pork and cold water. (Same content as Wen Zhong's *Beiji Fang*)
Another formula:
High-quality Sulfur (Liang Er, powdered) Bovine Milk (Wu Sheng)
These two ingredients: Add five *sheng* of water to the milk and boil until reduced to five *sheng*. Then add the sulfur and decoct to obtain three *sheng*. Take three *ge* per dose. Alternatively, decoct the sulfur directly in milk without water. If bovine milk is unavailable, ovine milk is also effective. (*Qianjin Yifang* records: if one *ge* is ineffective, increase to three *ge*).
Another formula:
First decoct three *sheng* of bovine milk until it is halved. Take one *liang* of sulfur powder with five *ge* of the reduced milk. After taking the medicine, cover tightly to induce sweating, avoiding exposure to wind. Administer another dose midway, and one more dose at dusk. If sweating has already occurred, do not administer further doses; instead, provide careful nursing and care. If not cured, it may be prepared again after a few days. If taken long-term...
*Qianjin Fang* Songzhi San (Pine Resin Powder) treats all types of wind pathogens, as well as severe wind causing foot weakness and wind-Bi. The fumigation method is the same.
Take thirty *jin* of pine resin (Songzhi). Place it in a brown palm fiber bag, tie the top securely. Lay bamboo and wood at the bottom of an iron cauldron, place the bag on top, and press it down with stones. Fill the cauldron with water and boil. Continue boiling until the resin floats out completely, then boil for twenty additional boils. Collect the liquid and place it in cold water. Replace the bag and wash the cauldron, repeating this process nine times. The medicine is now ready.
Su Gong's Decoction Powder treats Hongxiangjiao during spring, summer, and autumn, characterized by foot weakness or swelling, rebellious Qi rushing to the heart, and body numbness and oppression.
*Duhuo Radix* *Poria* *Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix* *Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix* *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma* *Astragali Radix* *Ephedrae Herba* (nodes removed) *Bupleuri Radix* (each Liu Liang) *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* *Saposhnikoviae Radix* *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium* (sliced) *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens* *Prunus Armeniacae Semen*
The above twenty-two herbs do not have fixed dosages; they can be adjusted according to circumstances. The remaining twenty herbs are cut into bean-sized pieces and divided into thirty packets. Each packet is combined with one *liang* of fresh ginger and crushed tangerine peel.
Take cold. For chest oppression...
Stop taking the medicine when the illness subsides; do not take it regularly. Avoid pork, cold water, mutton, maltose syrup, raw green onions, peaches, plums, sparrow meat, and vinegar products. (From Volume 1)
Another regular decoction powder for treating various cases of Hongxiangjiao weakness that have not yet severely manifested.
*Duhuo Radix* *Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix* *Ephedrae Herba* (nodes removed) *Poria* *Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix* *Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix* (each Liu Liang) *Magnetitum* (Shi Liu Liang, crushed) *Astragali Radix* *Saposhnikoviae Radix* *Ginseng Radix* *Rhinocerotis Cornu* (each Liu Liang) *Cimicifugae Rhizoma* *Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma* *Cinnamomi Ramulus* (each Si Liang) *Gypsum Fibrosum* (Shi Si Liang, crushed) *Evodiae Fructus* (Ba Liang) *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens* *Pinelliae Tuber* (washed) *Arecae Semen* (large ones) *Prunus Armeniacae Semen* *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (sliced)
The above twenty-one herbs: Crush and slice sixteen of them into bean-sized pieces. Divide into thirty portions. Mix evenly for one dose. Take with three Areca nuts and one *liang* of fresh ginger.
Vomiting stops.
