The etiology lies in the fact that Lung Qi connects to the nose. When the Lung Zang is invaded by Wind-Cold pathogenic factors, the nasal Qi becomes disordered, and body fluids (Jin Ye) become congested and obstructed, leading to the formation of nasal polyps. Cold pathogens contend with Blood and Qi, causing stagnation and accumulation within the nose, resulting in nasal obstruction and difficulty breathing.
*Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Kept Up My Sleeve) formula for treating nasal obstruction caused by fleshy growths impeding respiration.
Another formula:
Bai Fan Shi (Alumen, calcined, 1 liang) Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla, 0.5 liang) Zhen Zhu (Pearl, 1 liang)
Grind the above three herbs into fine powder. Wrap in cotton like a jujube pit and insert into the nose. Change three times daily. If Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart) and Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), each 1 liang, are added, grind them together into powder and mix as directed.
Another formula:
Chen Gua Di (Old Thunbergia Melon Pedicle), ground into powder, applied to the fleshy obstruction until healed.
Bai Fan Shi (Alumen, calcined) Hu Fen (Lead Carbonate, processed), equal parts.
Grind the above two herbs into powder, mix with Qing Yang Zhi (Fat of Black Sheep) and apply to the fleshy obstruction until healed.
Another formula:
Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) and Gua Di (Thunbergiae Fructus), equal parts, ground into powder. Blow into the nose. After a short while, rhinorrhea will occur; frequent blowing will lead to recovery. *Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) suggests wrapping in cotton like a jujube size and inserting into the nose for immediate patency. Zhang Wenzhong also treats nasal polyps causing anosmia.
*Duan Ju Fang* formula for treating nasal fleshy obstructions. Tong Cao San Powder.

Pound the above four substances into powder. Wrap in cotton like a jujube pit. Dip the powder like a small bean, and insert the cotton end into the nose. Do this three times daily until healed. (Same as *Qian Jin Fang*)

Sieve the above seven herbs into powder. Form pills like apricot kernels using honey. Wrap in cotton and insert into the nose at bedtime. Rhinorrhea will immediately follow. Three times daily. Avoid wind. Continue until healed. Wrapping the head with cloth is also highly effective.

Pound and sieve the above thirteen herbs into powder. Decoct Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) and Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) in water, mix with the powder, and apply to the polyps. Then apply Jiao Qing (Colla Corii Asini clarified) over it until healed.
Another formula for treating nasal polyps.
Sheng Di Dan (Fresh Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix, 1 piece) Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, powdered)
Extract juice from the fresh Di Dan, mix with the herbs, and apply to the polyps to eliminate them. Alternatively, collect only the Di Dan juice in a bamboo tube and irrigate the area to cause dissolution. If fresh material is unavailable, dry it and decoct in wine to extract the juice for use.
