In the *Bingyuan* (Source of Diseases), "quchi" (dental caries) refers to teeth being eaten by worms until they break, with pus rotting and juice smelling foul, resembling a corroded state; hence it is called quchi. (From Volume 29)
*Guangji Fang* treats dental caries. Shidai San (Mineral Indigo Powder) formula:
Burn dried toads collected on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month into ash. Mix with equal parts of Shidai (Mineral Indigo) and Ganpi (Sweet Bark). Pound into powder and apply to the affected teeth until healed.
Another prescription for treating dental caries and oral canker sores caused by worm erosion. Zilan Hui (Purple Isatis Ash) formula:
Burn Zilan (Purple Isatis leaves) into ash and apply to the area. Apply three to five times daily until healed.
Another prescription for treating dental caries accompanied by worm erosion that has persisted for years without healing, from youth to old age:
Quemai (Bromus japonicus), also known as Muxingcao, resembles Niuweicao (Setaria viridis). Use thirty leaves of Kuhu (Bitter Bottle Gourd). Wash them cleanly and leave them exposed overnight. At dawn, take the grass stems, break them... [Text fragment missing/unclear] ... extremely hot ones turn yellow... Bixiao Jin Gui Sheng Gongfu Quchi Fang (Effective Formula for Nobles):
Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus) each one liang; Qingxiangzi (Phytolaccae Semen) three liang.
Pound the above five herbs. Wrap in cotton like a soybean size and place against the tooth. Do this three times daily. Do not swallow the juice. Stop when healed. (Same as *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*)
Another formula for quchi. (Obtained from Official Wei):
Every time you see the moon, bow and chant the spell: "Moon Auntie, let the caries worm wither; Moon Auntie, let the caries worm die." Stop when cured.
Zhang Wenzhong's formula for treating wind in the head and face, causing unbearable toothache:
Jiaojiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium) one he; Mangcao (Isatidis Folium, ten leaves, fried); Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma); Cuili Gen (Trichosanthes Radix, also known as Yuli Gen/Dorian Plum Root); Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix); Xiongqiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) each two liang; Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma); Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) each one liang.
Chop the above eight herbs. Boil in three sheng of wine for three to five boils. Remove the dregs and swish in the mouth. Stop when healed. Do not swallow the juice. (*Qianjin Fang* does not contain Baizhu).
*Jiuji Fang* (Emergency Rescue Formulas) treats tooth wind-induced pain:
Take a handful of Cang'er (Xanthii Fructus), boil in Jiangshui (fermented grain liquid), add salt, and swish.
*Gujin Luyan* treats tooth wind-induced pain, swelling, and dental caries. Xiongxiong Tang (Ligusticum Decoction) formula:
