Tianmaizi (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, 30 grains, shell and skin removed, selecting plump ones), Zhusha (Cinnabar, 1 qian, selecting transparent and bright ones), Shexiang (Musk, 5 li, selecting authentic with pure odor). First, grind Zhusha and Shexiang into an extremely fine powder. Then add Tianmaizi and grind them together into a paste. On the noon of the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, apply the paste to thirteen locations: the lower back heart area, both palms, both soles, both popliteal fossae (knee pits), and both flanks. Ensure all areas are covered without omission. Any remaining paste should not be washed off or touched after application; let it fall off naturally. Applying once in the current year results in few pustules. Apply three times again on the Dragon Boat Festival of the following year, and once more on the Dragon Boat Festival of the second subsequent year. This ensures permanent immunity from smallpox. For infants under one year old, applying according to this method on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month and the ninth day of the ninth lunar month is even better. The treatment method is the same for both males and females. The family transmitting this prescription has had three generations free from smallpox.

Furthermore, for any infant regardless of gender, select Chuanlianzi (Toosendan Fructus, choosing plump and smooth ones) and pound them in a basin. (For ages one to three, use seven fruits with three bowls of water; for four to five years, nine fruits with five bowls of water; for six to seven years, fifteen fruits with seven bowls of water; for eight to ten years, twenty fruits with nine bowls of water; for eleven to fifteen years, thirty fruits with fifteen bowls of water.) Decoct in a new clay pot until thick, then pour into a basin. In a wind-sheltered place, dip a piece of new white cloth into the liquid and wipe the entire body from head to foot, leaving no gaps. Then dry the cloth and stay in a wind-sheltered place for a moment. Avoid using iron tools when pounding the herbs. This not only prevents smallpox but also avoids sores and boils. The bathing date must be chosen as the seventh "Chu" day (a day designated for removal/cleansing in the traditional calendar), and wash seven times. From May to early August, there are several such days, all occurring during hot weather.

If contaminated by filth from sexual intercourse, menstruation, or childbirth, resolve it by burning dates to produce smoke. To prevent itching, resolve it by burning birch bark mixed with dates to produce smoke. For those affected by these filths, resolve it by burning Gegen (Puerariae Radix) and Yinchenshao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) to produce smoke. If affected by the qi of the Five Pungent Spices, resolve it by burning Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) to produce smoke. If affected by the qi of corpses or epidemic pathogens, resolve it by burning Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) to produce smoke. If affected by fox odor or dog/sheep odor, resolve it by burning Fengshuye (Maple Leaf) to produce smoke. If encountering windy or rainy weather, burn Cangzhu and Fengshuye to resolve it. If the blood is deficient and the pus formation of pustules is difficult, avoid burning Cangzhu, lest it increase dryness and make pus formation even more difficult. If encountering various evil airs, fumigate with Ruxiang (Olibanum) and spray with Hucui Jiu (Coriander Wine). Folk practice involves boiling vinegar to fumigate pustules, believing vinegar promotes blood circulation; however, vinegar actually has an astringent effect, which is highly inappropriate.
