Mugwort herb (Yinchen, 茵陈) is burned to produce smoke for fumigation. This is effective.
Magots appear in the pustules of smallpox, causing unbearable itching. Take peach leaves (Tao Ye, 桃叶) in any quantity, soften them by kneading, cover the smallpox lesions with them, and place them under the body; this will eliminate the magots. Another method: spray the whole body with vinegar water.
Agarwood (Chenxiang, 沉香), Sandalwood (Tanxiang, 檀香), and Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) (equal parts) are placed in a basin. Hold the child over the basin for fumigation; the magots will crawl out.
Puncture the carbuncle (Ding, 疔) to release purple blood, then apply Dandelion ointment (Pugongying Gao, 蒲公英膏).
When smallpox lesions ulcerate and discharge pus continuously, take thatch used for roofing for many years, wash it clean, bake it dry, grind it into powder, and sprinkle it on the affected area. This is miraculous. Another method: sprinkling Pine pollen (Songhuafen, 松花粉) is also effective.
For smallpox lesions and facial scratches caused by scratching: Lead monoxide (Mituo Seng, 密陀僧) and Talcum powder (Huashi, 滑石) (each two liang), and Angelica dahurica root (Baizhi, 白芷) (five qian), are ground into an extremely fine powder. If dry, sprinkle directly; if moist, mix with white honey (Bai Mi, 白蜜) to apply. This is good.
Sheep tibia marrow (Yangjing Suisui, 羊胫骨髓) is mixed with refined honey (one liang) and Calomel (Qingfen, 一钱) to form an ointment for application. The scabs will fall off, and scars will be eliminated. Another method: Mix lard (Zhu You, 猪油) and honey evenly, boil over fire for three to five boils, let cool, and brush onto the lesion with a chicken feather; it will fall off after several applications.
