Qingdai (Powder of Indigo Naturalis processed by water flotation), Shiqing (Azurite), Xionghuang (Realgar, each 1 liang), Danfan (Chalcanthite, 3 qian), Renzhongbai (Calcinus Humanis), Pengsha (Borax), Yuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 2 qian), Zhen Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum, 5 fen), all ground into fine powder. Store in a porcelain bottle, sealed tightly to prevent leakage. In emergencies, blow 2-3 fen of the powder into the throat.
(This condition is also known as Hou Bi [Sore Throat])
If the lesion arises above the "guan" (throat gate), the condition is mild; if below the "guan", it is severe. This syndrome involves Hou Bi (throat closure/obstruction); if obstruction occurs, it may be incurable within moments. For male patients, inspect from the back of the head to the crown with the help of a female assistant; for pediatric patients, inspect the Hegu area (Hukou) of both hands. If blisters or red spots are present, immediately heat a silver needle over a lamp flame. Simultaneously, mash old garlic into a paste, take an amount the size of a broad bean, and apply it to Jingqu Acupoint (located at the wrist crease on the radial side, near the base of the thumb). Cover with a clam shell and tie securely (other materials may be used). After a short while, a blister will form. Puncture it with the silver needle, wipe away the fluid, and the patient will recover. Subsequently, administer Ganjie Tang (Jinyinhua [Lonicerae Japonicae Flos] 2 qian, Gancao [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma] 1 qian, Jiegeng [Platycodonis Radix] 8 fen, Niubangzi [Arctii Fructus] 1.5 qian, decocted in water) to prevent recurrence. If unavailable, omitting this decoction is acceptable. This formula has proven highly effective repeatedly. Alternatively, burn fingernails to ash and blow into the throat to instantly rupture the "moth" (referring to tonsillar swelling resembling moth wings). Or, burn rush pith to ash and blow in. Apply according to the affected side: insert into the corresponding nostril. If bilateral, insert into both nostrils.
Do not wash chicken gizzard lining (Jizhongjin). Dry roast until charred, grind into powder, and blow into the throat with a bamboo tube for immediate relief. Additionally, mix mud from a swallow's nest with Realgar (equal parts), grind together, and apply externally to both sides of the throat mixed with Huashaojiu (Flower-sharpened Liquor) for cure. Furthermore, when the throat first feels distended and blistering begins, rub coarse salt between the palms. Replace with fresh salt when it dries. The swelling will subside after a few moments. Also, gargle with Malan juice (汁 of Kalimeris indica) for immediate relief. Additionally, freshly dig up and clean the root of Tu Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), avoiding iron and oil. Break it with fingernails, place in a porcelain bowl, add human milk, mix well, and pound with a wooden pestle until pasty. Then, place the bowl in hot water to extract the medicinal juice. Use a tea spoon to draw the juice and instill into the nostril: left for males, right for females. Swelling subsides and recovery is rapid within moments; this is miraculous.
Fan Shi (Alumen, 1 liang) soaked in 3 sheng of water, used to soak hands and feet. For cases with swelling and pain, apply a mixture of Mustard Seed powder (Jiezi Mo) and water to the lower throat, replacing when dry. Additionally, for those with patent airways, burn Ruoye (Bamboo Leaf sheath) and Dengcao (Scirpi Puberuli Caulis) in equal parts to ash, remove the fire toxicity, and blow the powder in.
