Take a handful of Chinese chive (Allii tuberosi Bulbus), crush and heat it, then apply as a poultice. Replace when it cools.
Alternatively, crush the root of Chinese leek (Allii macrostemonis Bulbus) with vinegar and apply to the swollen area. Replace immediately upon cooling.
Another method: Mix vinegar (Acetum) with powder of Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) and apply to the affected area.
Another method: Apply a paste made of white flour and vinegar to the external swelling of the throat.

If no medicine is available, blow powder of Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus (Zaocys/Zaojiao) into the nose to induce sneezing. Grind the bark near the root of Prunus salicina (Li shu) with water and apply externally to the throat. This is effective.

In emergencies, use the membrane connecting the seeds of Pharbitidis Semen (Qianniu). Take the segment that passes through the nostril, char it until carbonized but retaining efficacy (Cun Xing), powder it, and blow it into the throat. Highly effective.
Also, take 1 liang of Soap Bean (Ya Zao), remove skin and fibers, grind into powder, and sprinkle on the neck. Replace when dry. Extremely effective. (Also treats Ru E / tonsillar hypertrophy)
Also, mix 1 liang of Mirabilite (Mangxiao), 5 qian of White Stiff Silkworm (Bai Jiangcan), and 2.5 qian of Licorice Root (Gancao). Grind into fine powder. Blow 2-3 fen into the throat each time. Effective.
Also, take over ten "zi ke" (parasitic nests/galls, preferably from walls), bake them on tiles until ash, add a small amount of Borneol (Bingpian), and blow into the throat. Divine effect. (Another prescription uses only zi ke without borneol)
Also, mix equal parts (2 qian each) of Stir-fried White Stiff Silkworm (Jiangcan, stir-fried to remove silk and head) and Alum (Baifan). Grind into fine powder and blow a small amount into the throat.

One seed of Croton Tiglium Seed (Badou), wrapped in any material, inserted into the nostril. For males, insert into the left; for females, into the right.
Also, mix 7 seeds of Croton Tiglium Seed (Badou) and 8 fen of Asarum Root (Xixin). Grind into powder, wrap appropriately, and insert into the nostril corresponding to the side of the disease. For bilateral tonsillar hypertrophy (Shuang E), alternate insertion between left and right nostrils. Remove once swelling subsides.
Also, scrape the scale from an old urine pot, roast on a tile, grind into fine powder, and blow into the throat.

Grind Soap Bean (Ya Zao) and Croton Tiglium Seed (Badou) into powder. Mix with rice decoction, brush onto paper, dry, and roll into incense sticks (nianzi). Ignite and smoke the nostrils. The mouth will open immediately. Nasal discharge of mucus and saliva occurs. Specifically treats eighteen types of Hou Bi (throat closure).
Also, take hair and fingernails in appropriate amounts, char them (Cun Xing), roll in red paper, and blow into the affected area. (For males, use female's right/left; for females, use male's left/right - *Note: Original text syntax is fragmented here, implying gender-specific application*).
If there is a mass in the throat preventing intake of water and food, causing critical danger: Hold Chalcanthite (Danfan) in the mouth. After vomiting out all foul saliva, recovery will occur naturally.

Slice Radix Phytolaccae Acinosae (Shanglu), roast until hot, and apply via cloth compression (ironing therapy). Replace when cool.
Alternatively, crush Mugwort (Ai Ye) and apply as a poultice.

Grind Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi) into powder and blow into the throat for immediate cure.
If sores form inside the throat and nostrils also ulcerate: Do not treat as Hou Feng (wind-throat), or death will ensue. Use one Bai Yanmei (White Salt Plum), charred to retain efficacy, mixed with 1 qian of Calcined Alum (Kufan), and Pangolin Scales (Chuanshanjia)... (*Text cuts off*).

Burn Cauliflower Shell (Daodou Qiao) to ash. Blow 2-3 fen into the throat. Immediate effect.
