Tooth bleeding (Yan Nu) and gingival recession with bleeding (Ya Xuan) refer to bleeding from the interdental spaces. If caused by excess heat in the Stomach channel, blood flows out like a gush, accompanied by foul breath while the teeth remain firm. Qingwei Tang (Stomach-Clearing Decoction) is indicated; for severe cases, Tiaowei Chengqi Tang (Regulate the Stomach and Order the Qi Decoction) may be used to purge. Alternatively, one may use three qian of Rhizoma Rhei Preparatum (prepared with wine), mixed with a decoction of Fructus Aurantii (Zhi Ke, five qian) and a small amount of infant urine (Tong Bian), taken orally. Healing occurs after the passage of black stools. This method treats conditions characterized by a surging and forceful pulse, indicating excessive heat in the Yangming channel. If caused by deficiency fire in the Stomach channel, ershenshen Tang (Two-Shen Decoction) or Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Decoction for Reinforcing the Middle and Augmenting Qi) added with Radix Scutellariae (Huang Lian) and Cortex Moutan (Dan Pi) are indicated. In cases of Kidney channel deficiency, blood oozes drop by drop, accompanied by lingering pain in the teeth, without foul breath, but with loose or falling teeth. Treatment should focus on stabilizing the Kidneys. For those with fire, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) is used; for those without fire, Shendi Dihuang Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) is used. Both should be combined with Rhizoma Drynariae (Hou Jiang, also known as Gusuibu). These treatments yield immediate results. For those with excessive Liver qi, Lulu Wan (Aloe Pill) should be taken concurrently. Externally, Jili Tang (Tribulus Decoction), Xuanhu San (Cyperus Powder), and Lizhi Yan (Lychee Salt) can be applied for rubbing or rinsing.
Ershen Tang: Treats tooth bleeding due to deficiency fire.
Radix Ginseng (Renshen) and Radix Scrophulariae (Xuanshen) (each 2 qian, or 5–7 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Jili Tang: Treats tooth bleeding, as well as toothache with swollen and mobile gingival roots.
Spina Tribuli (Bai Jili) (1 liang, ground into coarse powder).
Decoct in two zhong of water until one zhong remains. Add a pinch of salt and use for rinsing.
Xuanhu San: Treats Ya Xuan (gingival recession with bleeding).
Raw Rhizoma Cyperi Rotundi (Xuanhusuo) ground into powder. Rinse the mouth with the aforementioned Jili Tang, then apply this powder to the affected area.
Lizhi Yan: Treats toothache and Ya Xuan; further strengthens teeth and improves vision.
Take one Lychee fruit, pierce a hole, insert 0.7 fen of salt and 0.3 fen of Fructus Zanthoxyli (Huajiao), filling it completely. Wrap in paper, seal with mud, and calcine over charcoal fire until preserved in nature. Grind into powder. Rub onto teeth morning and evening.
Buzhong Yiqi Tang, Liuwei Dihuang Wan, Shendi Dihuang Wan (see Ulcer section), Lulu Wan (see Gan Chuang section).
Cuan Chi Gan refers to bone spicules protruding from within the gingival flesh, resembling needles, causing pain. This condition is common in children. Use a Bi needle to puncture the surrounding tissue, extract the involved tooth. If bleeding does not stop, apply wet paper patches, changing them twice, and the bleeding will cease naturally. Avoid rich and greasy foods. The tooth will regenerate as before.
