Shi Jian stated: A newborn infant is merely a mass of blood and qi, lacking fixed form or specific syndrome manifestations. If there is no pulse but the infant is startled, it is termed fetal fright (Tai Jing); if there is fever, it is termed fetal heat (Tai Re). This is because while in the womb, the infant is one body with the mother. Therefore, when treating sores and ulcers in infants, one can accurately diagnose by examining the symptoms of the nursing mother. If the mother's Liver Meridian has heat, formulas such as Jiawei Xiaochaihu Tang (Modified Minor Bupleurum Decoction) may be used; if the Liver Meridian has deficiency heat, Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) may be used; if Kidney Water fails to nourish Liver Wood, Liuwei Dihuang Tang (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Decoction) is indicated; if the Heart Meridian has accumulated heat, Chaihu Zhizi San (Bupleurum and Gardenia Powder) is indicated; if the Heart Meridian has deficiency heat, Fuling Buxin Tang (Poria Nourishing Heart Decoction) is indicated; if there is heat accumulation from rich and greasy food, Dongyuan Qingwei San (Dongyuan Stomach-Clearing Powder) is indicated; if the Spleen Meridian has constrained heat, Qianshi Xiehuang San (Qian's Draining Yellow Powder) is indicated; if the Spleen Meridian has deficiency heat, Qianshi Yigong San (Qian's Yi-Gong Powder) is indicated. Following these treatments will naturally yield efficacy. However, if one indiscriminately uses Xijiao Wan (Rhinoceros Horn Pill), Huadu Dan (Toxin-Transforming Pellet), or applies cold and cooling external medicines, it will further damage Yuan Qi (Original Qi),反而 accelerating the condition towards danger.
