Method for Extracting Pine Oil: Take 5-6 jin of Songjie (Pine Node). Split into strands finger-thick. Use a water vat filled with water. Place a copper basin immersed in the water, with its bottom level with the vat's bottom. Place a rice sieve on top, pile pine nodes on the sieve. Cover the pine nodes densely with straw ash. Ignite fire on top. If smoke emerges from pine nodes, cover immediately with ash. Pine oil flows down into the basin. Collect in porcelain bottles, preventing gas leakage. It is remarkable that the burned pine nodes do not damage the sieve.
Hongji Gao (Hongji Ointment): Treats spreading sores and scabies in the lower body, and erosive sores on the head and face.
Preparation: Stir-fry Xiong Heidou (Black Soybean) until popping, then crush. Put into a wine bottle, layering with Xueyu (Human Hair Charcoal) until 70-80% full. Cover mouth with iron wire or stuff with Huazhi (Sophora branch) or Liuzhi (Willow branch). Place a square brick with a hole in the center over the bottle mouth, sealing tightly with mud. Dig a pit, place a bowl inside, cover the pit with the brick ensuring the bottle mouth aligns with the bowl. Seal the brick surroundings tightly to prevent air leakage. Pile dry horse manure on the brick, covering the bottle bottom. Ignite fire at the tip. Leave overnight until ashes cool. Take out the oil from the bowl. Apply to affected areas with a goose feather.
Stubborn Ulcer Steaming Method: Cut tofu into slices finger-thick, apply to sores according to size. Place moxa on the tofu and moxibustion. After finishing, add more moxa until the tofu dries up. Replace tofu and moxibustion again. Repeat replacing tofu three times, using about one jin of moxa. The stubborn necrosis will transform. Then apply other medicines for effect.
Alternative method: Make a well shape with flour dough around the sore. Place a wax cake (thickness of a copper coin) inside the well. Place moxa on the wax and moxibustion. The wax melts into the sore. When fire burns out and ash cools, pick away all necrotic tissue and the locked edges of the sore. Apply granulation-promoting medicine to close the wound.
