When sweating, one is exposed to pathogenic wind. The lesions resemble flat bumps like broad beans. For itching prominent during the day, Qinjiao Tang (Cocklebur and Gentian Decoction) is suitable; for symptoms worsening at night, Danggui Yinzi (Angelica Decoction) should be taken to alleviate discomfort.
[Annotation] This condition is commonly known as "ghost rice bumps." It arises from exposure to wind after sweating, or from sleeping outdoors and cooling off, where wind pathogens easily attack individuals with deficient exterior defenses. Initially, the skin itches, followed by the appearance of flat bumps resembling broad beans, accumulating in patches. For severe daytime itching, Qinjiao Niubang Tang (Cocklebur and Gentian Decoction) is indicated; for severe nighttime itching, Danggui Yinzi (Angelica Decoction) is indicated. Externally, soak Radix Stemona (Bai Bu, 百部) in distilled spirits, dip blue cloth in the liquor, and rub the affected area. Avoid wind and cold, and self-healing will occur.
Qinjiao Niubang Tang (Cocklebur and Gentian Decoction)
Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae (Qin Jiao, 1.5 qian) [Atractylodis Rhizoma Prepared with Bran] (Zhi Ke, 枳壳); Semen Arctii Laxativae (Niu Bang Zi, stir-fried and crushed); Ramulus Cinnamomi (Ma Huang, honey-processed); Cornu Rhinocerotis (Xi Jiao, sliced thinly); Radix Scutellariae (Huang Qin, 黄芩); Radix Saposhnikoviae (Fang Feng, 防风); Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gan Cao, raw); Radix Panacis Quinquefolii (Hei Shen, 黑参); Radix Cimicifugae (Sheng Ma, 升麻) (each 1 qian).
Decoct in two cups of water until reduced to eight-tenths, then take orally.
[Prescription Verse] Qin Jiao and Niu Bang disperse wind lingering in the skin; appearing like hemp seeds or beans, combined with Zhi Ke, Ma Huang, Xi Jiao, Huang Qin, Fang Feng, Gan Cao, Hei Shen, and Sheng Ma.
Danggui Yinzi (Angelica Decoction) (See section on Scabies)
Jinying Chuang (Oozing Eczema) is caused by fire, dampness, and wind pathogens. Yellow fluid oozes and spreads, resembling scabies, extending into patches with incessant itching. Treatment should focus on clearing heat and dispelling wind.
[Annotation] This condition initially resembles scabies, with constant itching that spreads uncontrollably. Scratching leads to yellow exudate, causing oozing and patch formation. It results from Heart Fire, Spleen Dampness, and Wind invasion. The *Neijing* states: "When the year's Fire is excessive, severe cases present with high fever and skin oozing." Zhang Zhongjing stated: "Progression from the mouth towards the limbs is favorable (Shun); progression from the limbs towards the mouth is unfavorable (Ni)." Initially, administer Shengma Xiaodu Yin (Primula Decoction for Detoxification) plus Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Cang Zhu, 苍术) and Rhizoma Coptidis (Chuan Huang Lian, 川黄连). If scratched open with blood loss, Xiao Feng San (Wind-Dispersing Powder) is indicated; externally apply Qingge San (Green Shell Powder) for cure. If the pulse is slow, appetite is lost, and yellow exudate persists, this indicates Spleen Failure, which is an untreatable condition.
