Jiedu (late-stage complication of yameichuang/syphilitic chancre) arises from the condensation of yamei (syphilis) pathogenic factors, caused by the mistaken ingestion of potent "jie" (expelling) medicines containing mercury. After a long period, when the body's righteous qi becomes deficient, the pathogenic factors re-emerge and attack the brain, nasal cavity, throat, and eyes.
[Note] This condition occurs when, during the peak of yamei chancre, one mistakenly ingests potent, dry, and hot "jie" medicines refined with mercury, hoping for rapid results. The scabs fall off completely, and one is temporarily cured by luck, unaware that this causes long-term harm, allowing the toxin to hide within the bone marrow and orifices. Accumulated over time, due to the deficiency of meridians, the toxin attacks outwardly; hence it is named "Jiedu Daofa" (reversal eruption of Jiedu). Initially, it presents as pain in the tendons and bones, with nodular swellings appearing anywhere, while the skin color remains normal. When about to ulcerate, the color turns purple-red, becoming foul-smelling and putrid, leading to collapse of the cranial vertex, damage to the cheeks, lips, and nasal bridge, perforation of the throat, erosion of the eyes, and contracture of the hands and feet, ultimately becoming an intractable disease. At the initial stage of nodular swelling and tendon/bone pain, Soufeng Jiedu Tang should be taken. If the entire body is ulcerated and foul-smelling, accompanied by tendon/bone pain, and the constitution is robust with excessive toxin, Huadu San should be taken. For those with weak constitutions, Zhuyanzi Tang is the primary treatment. If the Jiedu nodules persist for years without healing despite various methods, Xisheng Fujian Wan should be taken. If the toxin attacks the mouth and nose, Wubao San should be taken. For long-standing cases with foul rotting and damaged nasal cavities, Jiedu Zijin Dan should be taken. If the toxin attacks the crown of the head causing severe headache as if breaking, Tianma Bingzi should be taken internally, and Biyun San blown into the nose externally. If nasal congestion persists, Tongbi San should be blown into the nose, which is highly effective. If the toxin attacks the throat causing rotting and foul erosion, Liuhuang Bu'er San should be taken, combined with blowing Jiedu Lingyao mixed with Renzhongbai. If Jiedu causes tendon/bone pain that is lighter in the morning and heavier at night, preferring warm hand massage, it is due to exposure to cold and chill; Qianhui San should be taken. For Jiedu ulcers that do not heal, Jiedu Zijin Gao should be applied topically, along with sprinkling Jiedu Lingyao. For robust individuals, detoxification is the main method; for weak individuals, tonification combined with detoxification is the method. All the above conditions should be treated according to their sequence and proper methods. Severe cases take one year, mild cases half a year, to recover naturally without aftereffects. Do not recklessly seek quick fixes to avoid self-harm.
