玉真散(见破伤风)
Bear, tiger, and wild wolf bites causing skin and muscle ulcers should be treated internally and externally with Ge Gen Tang (Pueraria Decoction); the wound should be fumigated with burning green cloth or washed with iron decoction, and a solitary chestnut should be chewed and applied to the injury.
[Note] For wounds caused by the teeth and claws of bears, tigers, or wild wolves, initially decoct Ge Gen (Radix Puerariae) strongly for internal consumption (one to two bowls) and external washing, ten times daily; or wash with water boiled from raw iron that has a distinct taste. Additionally, roll a piece of green cloth tightly into a rope, ignite it, place it in a bamboo tube, and fumigate the wound to expel toxic fluids; subsequently, chew a solitary chestnut raw and apply it to the wound, which is effective.
Horse bites damage muscles; apply chewed chestnut paste to the affected area. If toxic vapors penetrate inward, Ma Chi Xian Tang (Portulaca Decoction) should be taken promptly.
[Note] This injury can be treated by applying chewed chestnut paste. If toxic vapors enter the interior, causing mental restlessness, nausea, and abdominal fullness, decoct Ma Chi Xian (Herba Portulacae) and drink it for immediate effect. Externally, use a horse whip to bind the arm, or burn the horse whip tassles until they retain their medicinal properties (Cinnabar), grind them into powder, mix with lard, and apply; both methods are effective.
Mad dog bites carry the deepest toxicity; treatments include pricking, sucking, fecal moxibustion, and urine washing/irrigation. A red hair on the vertex must be plucked out; observing taboos for three years ensures lifelong safety.
[Note] Dogs become mad due to toxicity in the five zang organs. Being bitten by such a dog inevitably harms humans and is a critical condition with nine deaths for every one survival. Immediately after being bitten, prick the bite site to let toxic blood flow out, and suck/wash the wound using mouthfuls of "jiang shui" (fermented grain liquid). Alternatively, use cupping/suction methods to remove toxic qi, or irrigate with human urine, dry the area, then fill half a walnut shell with human feces, apply it over the bite, and perform moxibustion on top; replace when the shell chars and feces dry; continue moxibustion up to 100 moxa cones (zhuang), then apply Yu Zhen San (Jade True Powder) mixed with saliva to the site, resume moxibustion the next day, gradually increasing to 300-500 cones. At the start of moxibustion, take Fu Wei San (Rescue Crisis Powder) to expel evil matter and blood clots via urination; if toxic blood clots block the urethra causing dysuria resembling strangury, take Hu Po Bi Yu San (Amber Jade Powder) to promote urination. The victim should have a red hair on the vertex plucked out immediately. Another method: grind fermented soybean (Dou Chi) into powder, mix with sesame oil to form a thick paste, shape into pills the size of a bullet, and frequently rub the bitten area; check the pill—if dog hairs are found inside, it indicates toxins are being expelled; replace the pill and continue rubbing until no hairs appear, which is very effective. Taboos must be strictly observed throughout: lifelong avoidance of dog meat, silkworm pupae, and adzuki beans; within 100 days, avoid contact with hemp products and alcohol; within three years, avoid all toxic foods and sexual intercourse. Almonds may be consumed regularly to prevent toxicity. If treatment is delayed and dog toxin enters the heart, causing mental confusion, abdominal distension, and foaming at the mouth, use powdered Tiger Head Bone (Os Capitis Tigris), Tiger Tooth (Dens Tigris), and Tiger Tibia Bone (Tibia Os Tigris), mixed with wine (2 qian) for oral administration. If the patient becomes manic, barking like a dog, with white sclera showing, the prognosis is adverse. Those who violate taboos throughout cannot be saved.
Fu Wei San (Rescue Crisis Powder)
Ban Mao (Mylabris, quantity based on days since bite: e.g., 7 beetles for 7 days, 10 for 10 days; remove wings and feet, stir-fry with glutinous rice, discard rice) Hua Shi (Talcum, water-ground, 1 liang) Xiong Huang (Realgar, 1 qian) She Xiang (Moschus, 2 fen)
Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian each time, mixed with warm wine; non-drinkers may use rice gruel.
[Formula Song] Fu Wei San treats mad dog bites,
Stir-fry Mylabris with glutinous rice together.
Add Talcum, Realgar, and Moschus,
Grind and take with wine to sweep away toxins.
Hu Po Bi Yu San (Amber Jade Powder)
Hua Shi (Talcum, 6 liang) Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 liang) Hu Po (Succinum, 5 qian) Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis, 8 fen)
Grind into fine powder. Take 3 qian each time, mixed with decoction of Jie Xin Cao (Herba Dictamni/Dentiae? Note: Deng Xin Cao is Juncus effusus, here likely referring to Juncus effusus Decoction as per context "Deng Xin"). *Correction*: Context says "Deng Xin Jian Tang", so Juncus effusus (Herba Junci).
[Formula Song] Amber Jade uses Liu Yi [Six-One Powder],
Add Indigo and Succinum, grind extremely fine.
Take 3 qian mixed with Juncus effusus decoction,
Slippery and astringent properties cure urinary difficulties.
Suction Method for Mad Dog Bites
Use two sand-fired liquor pots, filling each more than halfway with liquor. Heat one pot on fire until boiling silently, pour out the liquor, and immediately press the empty hot pot onto the broken wound to suction out dark, dirty blood and fluid; it will fall off automatically when full. Repeat with the second pot, alternating suction until all toxins are removed; the condition will heal immediately.
