Mao Yan Chuang (Cat's Eye Eruption) is named for its resemblance to a cat's eye. It presents with intermittent pain and itching, without blood or pus. Its shimmering appearance resembles a cat's eye, caused by damp-heat in the Spleen channel congealing with external cold.
[Note] This condition is also known as Han Chuang (Cold Eruption). It typically occurs on the face and all over the body. It arises from long-standing damp-heat stagnation in the Spleen channel, compounded by congealment due to external cold. Initially, it resembles a cat's eye with shimmering luster, lacking pus or blood, characterized only by irregular pain and itching. Over time, it may appear near the shins. Treatment involves taking Qing Ji Shen Shi Tang (Clear Muscle and Drain Dampness Decoction) internally, applying Zhen Jun Miao Tie San (True Lord's Miraculous Paste) externally, consuming more chicken, fish, garlic, and leeks, while avoiding fish, crab, and shrimp, leading to recovery.
Qing Ji Shen Shi Tang (Clear Muscle and Drain Dampness Decoction)
Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, soaked in rice water, stir-fried) Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, stir-fried with ginger juice) Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, raw) Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis) Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma)
Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, soil-fried) Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, raw) Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (each 1 qian)
Add two cups of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and twenty stalks of Jixin (Junci Medulla). Decoct until reduced to eight-tenths volume. Take warm.
[Formula Song] Qing Ji Shen Shi treats Mao Yan Chuang, Spleen damp-heat stagnation wrapped by external cold; Ping Wei San combined with Chai Hu Tang promotes drainage via Mu Tong, Bai Zhi, Sheng Ma, Bai Zhu, Zhi Zi, and Huang Lian are used together.

Yu Ji Chuang (Fish Spine Eruption) arises in individuals with deficiency constitutions, where damp-heat condenses between the skin. Due to deficiency-cold, the onset is slow; exudation of fluids occurs, and moxibustion helps thicken the pus, restoring Yang Qi.
[Note] This condition resembles a fish spine. It forms in persons with deficient and cold Yang who contract damp-heat stagnation. It often occurs between muscles and bones. Because of deficient and cold Yang, the development is slow, manifesting only as hardening and pain in the skin. Initially, it appears white, gradually enlarging to resemble a fish spine. Upon rupture, yellow fluid oozes out, and the formation of proper pus is delayed. In the initial stage, regardless of whether the lesion has ruptured, it is appropriate to apply moxibustion with garlic slices to unblock Yang Qi. Externally, apply Zhen Jun Miao Tie San mixed with sesame oil. Internally, take Nei Bu Shi Xuan San (Internal Tonification and Ten-Auspiciousness Powder). The emergence of thick, bright-red pus indicates a favorable prognosis (Shun). If moxibustion is ineffective, and the area becomes dark, necrotic, and discharges foul-smelling fluid, it indicates an unfavorable prognosis (Ni). Subsequent internal and external treatments should follow the protocols for Yong Ju Kai Yang (Abscess and Ulcer) sections.
