(Attachment: Winding Throat Wind)
Tight Throat Wind (Jin Hou Feng) is caused by excessive consumption of rich, greasy foods and fire-heat pathogens. It presents with redness, swelling, and pain in the throat, hoarseness or difficulty in speaking, a rattling sound in the breath resembling the pulling of a saw due to phlegm obstruction, and requires acupuncture at Shaoshang (LU11) to induce vomiting and purgation.
[Note] This condition arises from excessive intake of heavy, rich flavors, leading to accumulated heat in the Lung and Stomach, compounded by external pathogenic wind. Wind and heat interact and obstruct upward in the throat, causing swelling, pain, difficulty in voice production, inability to swallow liquids, and a rattling sound from phlegm accumulation that resembles a sawing noise. The onset is sudden and rapid. Immediately prick the Shaoshang (LU11) acupoint located on the medial side of the thumb to release dark purple-black blood, thereby draining heat. For severe phlegm, use Toyou Qian (Camellia Oil Paste) to guide vomiting; after expectoration, rinse the mouth with Licorice Decoction to neutralize the toxicity of camellia oil. Internally administer Xionghuang Jiedu Wan (Realgar Detoxification Pill) for emesis and purgation. Blow Baixue Sang San (White Snow Powder) into the throat. After the glottis opens and obstruction clears, internally administer Qingyan Lige Tang (Throat-Clearing Diaphragm-Relieving Decoction). Treatment according to these methods yields immediate results, indicating a favorable prognosis (Shun); conversely, cyanosis of the face, blackening of the lips, and cold rhinorrhea indicate an unfavorable prognosis (Ni). If accompanied by circumferential swelling around the neck, it is named Winding Throat Wind (Chan Hou Feng). Although its treatment is similar to this condition, it remains dangerous and difficult to cure.
Toyou Qian (Camellia Oil Paste)
Take half a bowl of warm water, add four spoons of Camellia oleifera seed oil (Toyou), and mix well. Dip a stiff chicken feather into the oil, insert it into the throat to stimulate the gag reflex, repeating four to five times until obstructed phlegm is expelled. Continue probing and vomiting until the patient regains consciousness and their voice becomes loud.
