Qingshe Du (Green Snake Poison) arises below the calf, presenting as a long, stiff purplish mass approximately three cun in length. It is caused by the accumulation of damp-heat in the Kidney and Bladder meridians. Prompt pricking at the "snake head" to release blood yields good results.
[Note] This condition is also known as Qingshe Bian. It occurs below the calf, manifesting as a swelling approximately two to three cun long, characterized by a stiff, purplish mass. Symptoms include aversion to cold with high fever, severe pain, and loss of appetite. It results from inherent deficiency of the Kidney meridian combined with downward pouring of damp-heat from the Bladder meridian. If the "snake head" points downward, the toxin is mild and superficial; prick the snake head half a cun deep to release dark purple-black blood, then apply Batiding San (Extract Tumor Powder) around the needle hole. Externally apply Ligong Ding (Palace of Li Plaster), and internally administer Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Formula for Saving Lives Decoction) supplemented with Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), and Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus). In cases where the "snake head" points upward, the toxin is deep and the condition is critical; prick the snake head one to two cun deep to release dark purple-black blood. Insert a thin strip of Baijiang Dan (White Reduction Elixir) five to six fen deep into the needle hole. Externally apply Bagao (Ba Paste), and apply Taiyi Zijin Ding (Taiyi Purple Gold Plaster) to remaining swellings. Internally administer Mailing Dan (Mailing Pill). Once the toxin subsides, follow up with Xianfang Huoming Yin to harmonize the body. If the toxin enters the abdomen, causing vomiting, abdominal distension, coma, and a restless pulse, these are all adverse signs (ni zheng).

Jiegu Fa (Bone-Connecting Abscess) resembles a walnut in shape, occurring below the calf with hardness, swelling, and pain. The skin is red with diffuse swelling; it should be allowed to suppurate and rupture quickly. Delay will damage the tendons and vessels, resulting in an inability to walk normally due to heel deficiency (que zhong xing).
[Note] This condition arises below the calf, at the junction of the tibia and the calcaneus (heel bone), hence the name Jiegu Fa. It is caused by the coagulation of damp-heat in the Bladder meridian. Initially, it is walnut-sized, hard as if bruised by impact, with urgent swelling and slight pain. The color is red with diffuse swelling. Suppuration should occur rapidly; delay allows pus and toxin to damage the tendons. Once the tendons are injured, the patient exhibits "que zhong xing," meaning they cannot place their entire foot on the ground but must rely on their toes to walk. Both internal and external treatments throughout the course of the disease follow the principles outlined in the sections on Carbuncles, Sores, Swollen Ulcers, and Open Ulcers.
