Warts are attributed to wind-heat and blood dryness in the Liver, Gallbladder, and Shaoyang meridians, or caused by anger stirring up Liver fire, or by the Liver being invaded by excessive pathogenic factors. Generally, Liver heat dries up Kidney water, and Kidney Qi fails to nourish, resulting in essence depletion and tendon spasms. It is advisable to use Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) to nourish Kidney water and generate Liver blood. If methods such as wrapping with spider silk, erosion with mantis, or moxibustion are used, errors are highly likely.
Generally, this condition is similar to tubercles caused by blood dryness. Therefore, if corrosive agents are applied externally and blood-drying detoxifying herbs are taken internally, essence and blood will become increasingly deficient, Liver tendons will be damaged, and the wound edges will evert and open, inevitably leading to a fatal outcome.
Treatment Cases:
Zhu Hongren, a student at the Prefectural Academy, aged twenty, had five warts on the back of his right hand near the middle finger. The largest one was like a soybean, while the others were clustered like millet grains. When pulled, they resembled threads, extending three to four cun in length. This indicated blood dryness and tendon contraction. He was treated with Qinggan Yirong Tang (Liver-Clearing and Nourishing Decoction), taking more than fifty doses before recovering.
Shen Yuwen, a female student at the Prefectural Academy, had bitten her nails since childhood and could not stop as she grew older. I stated: This is due to Liver fire and blood dryness. She also frequently developed small warts on the side of her neck, which would dissipate but recur repeatedly. Additionally, she had a lump on her arm, about the size of a mung bean; if crushed upon touch, it resembled broken threads, elongating when pulled and shrinking when relaxed. Later, white spots appeared in her temples, and she sought treatment. I said: You have a history of Liver disease, and these conditions also belong to the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. Nails are the surplus of tendons, and the Gallbladder meridian runs along the sides of the body, corresponding to nail-biting and wart formation. By regulating the Liver and Gallbladder, all diseases will heal naturally. Thus, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) was prescribed, taken for two years, after which the white spots faded spontaneously.
A man suffered from warts on his face, initially resembling red mulberries. After using various topical applications, the lesions everted and mushroomed. Subsequent use of corrosive agents caused them to enlarge into tumors. This patient exhibited complete deficiency patterns of the Foot Three Yin meridians. Treatment involved formulas that tonify Spleen and Lung to generate Liver and Kidney functions, leading to recovery shortly thereafter.
A man had a mass in his lower abdomen causing intermittent attacking pain. Treatments with qi-moving and phlegm-resolving herbs were ineffective. He believed it was a "blood leech" and took formulas to move qi and purge blood. Later, a wart formed on the back of his hand, growing to about one cun, shaped like a leech. Many bean-sized nodules appeared between his joints. Clinging to the idea that leeches manifest externally, he continued blood-moving treatments, exacerbating deficiency symptoms. His Left Chi pulse was flooding and rapid, and Guan was flooding, rapid, and wiry. I diagnosed this as Kidney water failing to nourish Liver wood, leading to Liver fire, blood dryness, and tendon spasms. Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) was used to nourish Kidney water and moisten Liver blood. After more than three months, all symptoms resolved.
A man, due to excessive physical labor, presented with a cyan-black complexion, fever, cough, facial warts, an abdominal mass causing moving pain, and constipation. Symptoms worsened after taking draining and reducing herbs. Pulse examination showed wiry and flooding pulses at both Guan positions, indicating severe Yuan Qi deficiency. This was Liver and Spleen pathology causing tendon spasms. Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free Wanderer Powder) combined with Dihuang Wan ingredients was administered, restoring Yuan Qi. Had it been mistaken for a blood leech and treated with draining methods, it would likely have been fatal.
A man, accustomed to rich foods and alcohol, first experienced hematochezia and constipation, followed by palpitations and insomnia. Later, small wart-like particles of varying sizes appeared around his anus. The pulse was rapid but weak upon pressure. I diagnosed this as Blood deficiency and blazing fire in the Foot Three Yin meridians, requiring nourishment of the source of transformation. Disbelieving this, he took Siwu Tang (Four Substance Decoction), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark), and Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome). Various symptoms erupted, indicating further damage to Stomach Qi and involvement of multiple meridians. Initially, Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) was given for over thirty doses, gradually improving symptoms. Then, morning doses of the former formula and evening doses of Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) were taken for another fifty-plus doses each, leading to quick recovery. Finally, Liujunzi Wan (Six-Gentleman Pill) plus Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit) was taken at night for half a year, resolving all symptoms.
A woman had five or six warts on the back of her left hand and fourth finger, resembling ripe mulberries. She suffered from internal heat, afternoon fever, and irregular menstruation. I stated: This is due to Liver and Spleen Blood deficiency causing warts in the hypochondrium, neck, chest, and breast areas, with irregular cycles. Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free Wanderer Powder) was used, with a small amount of stir-fried black Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) added for several doses until improvement. Huanglian was then removed, and Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) was added. Gradual improvement occurred over 100+ doses, restoring regular menstruation. Finally, Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill) was taken for three batches, leading to full recovery.
A woman had a mass in her lower abdomen, sometimes ascending or descending, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, chest stuffiness, and dribbling urination. Qi-moving and phlegm-resolving formulas worsened symptoms, resulting in menstruation occurring only once every two months. Some suspected an internal "meat leech" consuming blood, so purgative formulas were taken, causing heavy bleeding. A wart like a soybean formed on the back of each hand, growing to one cun over two months. More warts appeared later. Suspecting external leeches, she continued purging. Swelling appeared below both ears, suspected as toxic sores. I diagnosed this as Liver fire and blood dryness. Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free Wanderer Powder) and Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction) were taken concurrently, supplemented by Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill), resolving the condition in over three months.
A woman suffering from this condition used spider silk wrapping, Yuanhua (Genkwa Flower) thread, mantis-derived toxic erosives, and moxibustion, resulting in large ulcers, swelling, pain, fever, and hemorrhage. I stated: This is Yin Blood deficiency. Disbelieving this, she continued taking fire-descending herbs and died.
