The heel is the origin of the Du Mai (Governor Vessel) and the pathway of the Kidney Meridian. If diet is irregular or daily routine is improper, leading to deficiency of the Foot Triple-Yang Meridians, sores will form.
If it is caused by Yin Fire (deficiency fire), use the aforementioned decoction combined with Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia). If phlegm-fluids rise causing mouth and tongue ulcers, it belongs to dryness and depletion of Kidney Water; use the aforementioned decoction combined with Jiawei Bawei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill). In all such cases, one must nourish the source of transformation (the root cause); treating only the external symptoms would be a mistake. The common term "Rabbit Bite Sore" likely refers to a wound on the heel bitten by a rabbit that fails to heal over time due to exhaustion of Qi and Blood.
[Case Records]
Chen Rulin, Da Yin (a minor official), suffered from soreness and weakness in both legs, which appeared red or white at times. His heels were swollen, sometimes painful, sometimes itchy, followed by intensified pain. The skin felt as if absent or wrinkled and cracked. From late afternoon into the night, he experienced distending pain and heat. I used Bushi Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) added with ingredients of Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill), tonifying the Liver and Kidneys until he recovered.
A man suffered from heel pain, accompanied by heat, thirst, fatigue, and dysuria resembling strangury. He mistakenly used Baidu San (Detoxification Powder), resulting in headache, aversion to cold, nausea, anorexia, expectoration, and coughing. This was due to deficiency of the Foot Three-Yin Meridians, further injured by medication. I administered Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten-Agent Great Tonifying Decoction) and Jiawei Bawei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill), each taken for over fifty doses, until he recovered.
Another man, who neglected his daily routine, suffered from internal heat inducing thirst,渴 (thirst), fatigue, and heat in both feet, later developing heel pain. Someone prescribed herbs to clear heat and drain dampness, which exacerbated his evening fever. This was due to deficiency of the Foot Three-Yin Meridians. I prescribed Shiquan Dabu Tang in the morning and Jiawei Bawei Wan in the evening, with external application of Danggui Gao (Angelica Ointment). He recovered after more than two months.
Those who died from taking disinfectant-type drugs are too numerous to list.
Another man suffered from this condition, taking Xiaodu San (Disinfectant Powder) and applying corrosive medicines (Zhuisi Yao). This led to a succession of deficiency symptoms, leaving him emaciated to the point of being skeletal. Believing himself doomed to die, I treated him with Shiquan Dabu Tang, supplemented with Shanzhuyu (Cornus Fruit) and Shanyao (Dioscorea Rhizome). He recovered after more than two months.
A person accustomed to rich food and drink suffered from heat and thirst in both feet, with a rapid and weak pulse at the left Chi position. I stated: "This is deficiency of the Foot Three-Yin Meridians; beware of Ju (deep abscesses)." He did not believe me and instead took... [text missing/implied incorrect treatment]. I used Bushi Yiqi Tang and Liusheng Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) for over a hundred doses. Many others who did not heed my advice developed Ju and could not be saved!
A woman suffered from heat and pain in her heels upon exertion. I diagnosed it as deficiency of the Three Yin, and she recovered using Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction). Later, she experienced generalized pruritus. Mistakenly taking wind-dispelling herbs, she developed fever and convulsions, with a surging and rapid Liver pulse. This was wind generated by Liver Blood deficiency and hyperactive fire. I prepared pills made of Tianzhu Huang (Bambusa Textilis Tuber) and Dansheng (Arisaema Cum Bile), administering them with a decoction of Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction), Maimendong (Ophiopogon Root), Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root), Shanzhi (Gardenia Fruit), and Chaihu (Bupleurum Root). She recovered.
A woman suffered from heat in both feet and pain in both heels, with severe heat in the late afternoon. I diagnosed it as Liver and Kidney Blood deficiency. Using Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) and Liusheng Dihuang Wan for over fifty doses, all symptoms resolved.
A woman with inherent Blood deficiency suffered from heat in both feet and evening fever due to excessive labor, along with delayed menstruation. Someone prescribed Siwu Tang and Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), leading to poor appetite, chest fullness, and expectoration. Subsequently, Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Phlegm Resolving Decoction), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange), and Huanglian were used, resulting in loose stools, excessive expectoration, and heel pain. I said: "Foot heat, evening fever, and delayed menstruation indicate Liver and Spleen Blood deficiency. Chest fullness, expectoration, and poor appetite indicate Spleen and Stomach deficiency. The Stomach is the foundation of the Five Zang Organs; once Stomach Qi is deficient, various symptoms arise." I first used Bushi Yiqi Tang added with Baifuling (Poria) and Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) to strengthen the Spleen and Stomach. Then I supplemented with Liusheng Dihuang Wan to tonify the Spleen and Kidney. She recovered in less than two months.
A woman with irregular menstruation suffered from fever, evening fever, chest diaphragm discomfort, and poor appetite. After taking herbs to clear heat, broaden the middle, and promote digestion, her previous symptoms worsened, accompanied by limb soreness and pain. Taking herbs to drain dampness and resolve phlegm resulted in menstruation occurring only once every two months. Taking agents to unblock menstruation and descend fire caused pain in the heels and toes, with heat feeling like burning. I diagnosed this as deficiency of the Foot Three-Yin Meridians. Using Bushi Yiqi Tang and Liusheng Dihuang Wan, her symptoms gradually receded over two months. Then, using the aforementioned decoction combined with Bazhen San (Eight-Treasure Powder), she recovered after another two months.

Later, the skin felt as if absent or wrinkled and cracked, with distending pain and heat from late afternoon into the night. This was due to deficiency of the Foot Three-Yin Meridians. Using Jiawei Bawei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill) and Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) added with Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root) and Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) for over a hundred doses, she recovered.
