Huangshui Chuang (a skin disease characterized by the exudation of yellow fluid) suddenly appears on the head, face, ears, and neck. The lesions present a yellow color, and upon rupture, they exude serous fluid, spreading rapidly within moments. Patients often experience pain and itching. This condition is caused by exposure to sun and wind, sudden contraction of damp-heat pathogens, or consumption of foods that generate damp-heat internally, leading to wind stirring and fire arising. Treatment should involve applying Ge Fen San (Clam Powder Powder) externally, which will surely result in a cure.
Ge Fen San
Ge Fen San treats Huangshui Chuang; it is indicated when pus and fluid spread with associated itching and pain.
It contains: Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), and Qingfen (Calomelas). Mix with water and apply to the affected area for immediate effect.
Specific herbs and dosages: Gafan (Calcined Concha Margaritifera), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (1 liang each); Qingfen (Calomelas), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (raw and ground, 5 qian each).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with cool water for external application. In winter, mixing with sesame oil is also effective.
Zhenjun Miaotie San (see chapter on Swollen Ulcers)
Also effective for treating the itching, pain, and serous exudate associated with Huangshui Chuang.
Koupo (Oral mucosal ulceration/breakdown) is differentiated into deficiency-fire and excess-fire types, distinguished by pale and red colors respectively. In deficiency-fire cases, the color is pale with small white spots; in severe cases, there are depressions revealing cracked patterns like turtle shells, with a deficient pulse and no thirst. This is caused by excessive mental worry and fatigue from sleeping little while awake, leading to the movement of deficiency-fire. Treatment involves using Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) supplemented with Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), and Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) as guiding agents, employing the "concordant treatment" method (treating according to the false appearance of the disease). Externally, Liuhua San (Willow Flower Powder) should be applied. In excess-fire cases, the color is bright red with widespread ulcerated patches throughout the mouth; in severe cases, the cheeks and tongue swell, with an excess pulse and dry mouth. This is caused by consuming rich, greasy foods, strong alcohol, and roasted/fried items, leading to reckless movement of heart-fire. It is appropriate to use Liangge San (Cooling the Diaphragm Powder) internally, and apply Fuyan San (Banqueting Powder) externally until saliva is expelled, resulting in recovery. If sores appear in the mouth and tongue, accompanied by a dry, yellow, hard tongue and thirst, Jiajian Bawei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill) should be used to nourish the source of transformation (kidney yin/congenital foundation). Water rinsing is prohibited in all these cases.
Liuhua San
The chief herb in Liuhua San is Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), assisted by Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), and Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), with Bingpian (Borneol) added. Grind into a powder and insufflate into the lesion; it works miraculously and quickly for oral breakdown caused by floating deficiency-yang.
Specific herbs and dosages: Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (cleaned and powdered, 1 liang); Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) (3 qian); Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) (1 qian); Bingpian (Borneol) (2 fen).
Grind each herb into a fine powder separately, then grind them together again. Store in a porcelain jar. Use a small amount to insufflate into the affected area each time.
Fuyan San
Fuyan San contains Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), gathered together with Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) and Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma).
Add Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), with equal proportions of all herbs. Insufflate or apply to the oral lesion for relief.
Specific herbs and dosages: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (equal parts).
Grind into a powder and insufflate onto the affected area.
