Diseases of the teeth may be caused by Wind (Feng), Fire (Huo), or Damp-Heat in the Yangming Meridian, all of which can lead to such conditions. Pain caused by Wind manifests as swelling upon exposure to wind, followed by pain; it is treated with Xiaofeng San (Eliminate Wind Powder). Pain caused by Fire involves the tooth roots pulling on the cheeks and zygomatic bones, with paroxysmal pain that comes and goes; it is treated by applying Bingpeng San (Ice and Borax Powder) to the area, and self-healing occurs after saliva is discharged. Pain caused by Damp-Heat in the Yangming Meridian presents with swelling of the cheeks and zygomatic bones; in severe cases, it radiates to the Taiyang region, with pain extending to the chin and neck, a sensation of heat in the mouth, and dry, constipated stool; this should be treated with Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder) plus Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum). If the swelling is high, soft, and protruding, pus must be present internally; it should be punctured with a needle, and self-healing occurs after pus drainage. For rotting gums with unceasing bleeding, Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhino Horn and Rehmannia Decoction) is taken internally, while Renzhongbai San (Human Ashes Powder) is applied externally. In children suffering from Zuanchi Gan (Drilling Tooth Caries), where the root tip pierces through the gum tissue causing sharp pain like thorns pricking the lips, a lancet is used to pierce the healthy tissue on the tooth surface, and the affected tooth is extracted manually. If bleeding persists, wet paper patches are changed two or three times until bleeding stops naturally. A strict diet avoiding rich flavors is required for the tooth to regenerate as before.
