Sucking blood with leeches. This method can be applied to mild and minor conditions. If accumulated toxins reside in the zang-fu organs, merely depleting blood externally is of no benefit. A two-year-old child suffered from red macules (red patches on the skin). Several large leeches were used to suck out the blood, and the macules subsided. I said, "This is not proper treatment." Three days later, the child died of high fever. This is because when blood is lost, qi cannot exist independently.
Jinyinhua Wine: Take a handful of fresh Jinyinhua (Lonicera japonica) vines and leaves, pound them thoroughly in a porcelain vessel. Add a small amount of white wine, mix until the consistency is appropriate. Apply around the periphery of the lesion, leaving the center open to allow the discharge of toxic vapors. (Another method): Take five liang of vines, crush them with a wooden mortar. Combine with one liang of raw Gancao (Licorice Root) nodes. Place these two ingredients in a clay pot with two bowls of water. Decoct using strong fire initially and then weak fire until reduced to one bowl. Add one bowl of pure wine, boil for more than ten times. Strain the dregs. Divide into three doses and take warm. Apply the dregs to the affected area. Consume one dose within a day and night. If the condition is severe, administer two doses per day and night. Continue until urination and defecation become smooth, indicating that the medicinal power has reached the site. Dried herbs may also be used, but they are ultimately less potent and slower-acting than fresh ones. Alternatively, use only five or six liang of vines, crush them, add one cup of hot wine, squeeze out the juice, and take it warm with wine. Apply the dregs to the affected area. The condition will resolve after four or five doses. These vines creep and attach to trees or grow on garden walls. The stems are square and purple; the leaves resemble those of Ficus pumila (Creeping Fig) and are green. In March, flowers bloom with a slight fragrance; the calyx is yellow. The flowers are initially white, turning yellow after one or two days, hence the name Jinyinhua (Gold and Silver Flower). It is also known as Lusi Teng (Egret Vine), Jinchaigu (Golden Hairpin Thigh), Laowengxu (Old Man's Beard). Because the vine winds to the left, it is also called Zuochan (Left-Winding). It does not wither in winter, hence also called Rendong (Enduring Winter). It is found everywhere. It treats carbuncles, back abscesses, and breast abscesses. At the initial stage, this formula should be taken. Regardless of where the carbuncle occurs, it has miraculous effects. Combined with Maifanshi Gao (Maifan Stone Plaster) and Shenyi Gao (Miraculous Efficacy Plaster) applied topically, the effect is even better.
Huaihua Wine: Take four or five liang of Huaihua (Sophora Flower), stir-fry until slightly yellow. While hot, add two cups of wine, boil for more than ten rolls. Strain the dregs and take warm. For unformed pus, take two or three doses; for formed pus, take one or two doses. One person had a toxic sore on the thigh with severe pain. After taking detoxifying medicines without relief, one dose of Huaihua Wine caused the pathogenic factor to significantly subside. Subsequently, taking Toli Xiaodu Yao (Supporting Interior and Detoxifying Medicine) led to recovery. Another person had a back abscess for over ten days, with a critical condition and a large pulse. First, two doses of Huaihua Wine were taken to suppress the pathogenic force. After the force receded, two doses of Baidu San (Detoxification Powder) and several doses of interior-supporting medicines were administered. Gradually, it ulcerated. Additionally, moxibustion with mulberry wood branches was applied to the affected area for a long time daily, followed by plaster application. After several sessions of moxibustion, pus discharged and necrotic tissue fell off. Treatment with interior-supporting medicines containing Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) and Chenpi (Tangerine Peel) led to recovery after more than a month. Another person had a shoulder carbuncle with a rapid pulse. One dose of Huaihua Wine immediately reduced the condition. Subsequently, taking Jinyinhua (Lonicera japonica), Huangqi (Astragalus Root), and Gancao (Licorice Root) for more than ten doses resolved the issue.
Generally speaking, for swelling and toxicity, if one does not first remove the toxin using garlic moxibustion and drinking Huaihua Wine, even if interior-supporting medicines are taken, the efficacy may not be very rapid. Huaihua is most swift in treating damp-heat. However, individuals with cold stomachs should not take excessive doses.
