One type is called Guang Chuang (Broad Sore), because its toxin originates from the Lingnan region; another is called Shi Chuang (Seasonal Sore), due to abnormal changes in seasonal climate and invasion by pathogenic factors; yet another is called Fan Hua Chuang (Reversed Flower Sore), because it persists chronically and generates white blisters accompanied by dampness. Some present as red beans embedded in the flesh, hard as iron, named Yang Mei Dou (Bayberry Pox). Some resemble wind beans with itching, named Yang Mei Zhen (Bayberry Rash). Some first show a red halo followed by spots, named Yang Mei Ban (Bayberry Spots). Some are red and itchy, with circles of varying sizes overlapping in two or three layers, named Yang Mei Quan (Bayberry Rings). Although names and forms differ, they fundamentally stem from two causes: "Qi transformation" (transmission via environmental/airborne factors) and "Jing transformation" (transmission via sexual contact). Transmission via Qi transformation is mild; infection via Jing transformation is severe. "Qi transformation" occurs when one contacts a patient, inhales their odor, ingests contaminated items, or is exposed to unclean air in latrines, causing the spleen and lungs to absorb toxins, thus symptoms appear first on the upper body. Manifestations include skin itching, occasional bone and joint pain, small and dry sores, confined to the skin and muscles. Daily treatment involves HuANJI XiaoDu San (Skin-Replacing Toxin-Expelling Powder) with added Jing Jie (Schizonepeta Herb), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), and Chan Yi (Cicada Slough) to induce sweating, or alternatively, take LongDan XieGan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction) to clear damp-heat, leading to recovery. "Jing transformation" results from impure sexual intercourse; during ejaculation, toxins penetrate the MingMen (Gate of Life) through the essence channel and flood the ChongMai (Penetrating Vessel). Thus, toxins enter the bone marrow internally and reach the skin externally, affecting all areas supplied by the ChongMai. Patients often first develop Xia Gang (Chancre), then Bian Du (Bubo), gradually progressing to bone/joint pain, lower body sores, or dysuria. Sores are large and hard, posing the greatest danger. Treatment should prioritize resolving toxins; fumigation is contraindicated as it may cause recurrence that is difficult to treat. Some medical prescriptions use Sheng Yao (Calomel Pill) wrapped in Xiong Huang (Realgar) and swallowed, claiming cure in days. Others burn medicinal sticks or hold cold water in the mouth, methods that trap toxins internally to mask symptoms, deceiving others and harming lives. Patients hiding their shame suffer greatly. Recurrence leads to rotting toxins and blindness. Early stage treatment uses San Huang Wan (Three-Yellow Pill), taken at dawn with four qian of hot aged wine, covered to sweat, or alternated with LongDan XieGan Tang morning and evening. Externally, wash daily with JinDeng Teng (Honeysuckle Stem) decoction and apply XueYu San (Hair Ash Powder). Gradual improvement follows. For sores on the head, face, or inconvenient body parts desiring rapid healing, apply JinShuang San (Golden Frost Powder); lesions fall off in two to three days, which is miraculous. However, this is only symptomatic treatment; internal detoxification is essential. Any residual toxin may cause future complications. HuANJI XiaoDu San and Huai Hua Rui Fang (Sophora Flower Bud Formula) are excellent for clearing residual toxins.
1. Yang Mei Xuan (Bayberry Tinea): Wash with decoction of Shui Fu Ping (Water Fern), once every other day, curing after several applications.
HuANJI XiaoDu San (Skin-Replacing Toxin-Expelling Powder)
Mu Gua (Papaya Fruit, avoid iron vessels) (8 fen) Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (8 fen) Tu Fu Ling (Smilax Glabra Rhizome) (1 liang) Ren Dong Hua (Honeysuckle Flower) (3 qian) Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root) Bai Xian Pi (Dictamnus Bark) (2 qian each) Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) (4 qian) Zao Zhen (Gleditsia Spine) (2 qian) Mu Tong (Akebia Stem) (1.5 qian) Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica Root) (1.5 qian)
Decoct in water. For severe toxicity, increase Tu Fu Ling to 4-5 liang.
XueYu San (Hair Ash Powder)
Ren Zhi Jia (Human Nail, roasted and powdered, amount unspecified) Zhen Xue Yu Hui (True Hair Ash) (equal parts)
Grind both together. Add 1 qian She Xiang (Musk) per liang of powder, mix well, store tightly in a porcelain jar. Apply mixed with honey before use.
Appendix Formula: Yu Hou Tui Ban Bing (Post-Recovery Spot-Removing Cake)
Form small cakes from black cow dung, bake half-cooked over charcoal, apply hot to affected area, remove after one shichen (two hours); spots fade and turn white.
LongDan XieGan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction) (See General Formula No. 9)
Huai Hua Rui (Sophora Flower Bud) (See General Formula No. 42)

Appendix Formulas
1. Use one large toad, cut open belly, insert 1 liang Xiong Huang (Realgar), wrap in yellow clay, smelt over charcoal until clay turns red. Take 1-2 doses to prevent lifelong recurrence.
1. Patients with Yang Mei Chuang taking Qing Fen (Calomel) achieve temporary contraction to mask symptoms temporarily. Ignoring that toxins hide internally will inevitably lead to external ulceration, soon erupting in the nose. Emergency treatment requires large doses; small doses are ineffective. Use HuBi San (Nose-Protection Powder).
HuBi San (Nose-Protection Powder)
Xuan Shen (Scrophularia Root) (3 liang) Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) (2 liang) Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Licorice Root) (1 liang) Sheng Dan Sha (Cinnabar, powdered) (3 qian) Jie Geng (Platycodon Root) (5 qian) Hua Fen (Trichosanthes Root) (3 qian) Yin Hua (Honeysuckle Flower) (3 liang)
Decoct in water, mix with Cinnabar powder. One dose restores nasal smell/taste; four doses clear black discoloration, preventing nasal bridge collapse. Follow with Quan Bi San (Complete Nose Powder).
Quan Bi San (Complete Nose Powder)
Xuan Shen (Scrophularia Root) (1 liang) Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Licorice Root) (3 qian) Yin Hua (Honeysuckle Flower) (1 liang) Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root) (1 liang) Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) (5 qian) Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) (3 qian)
Decoct in water, mix with 1 qian Cinnabar powder. Ten doses expel all body toxins, ensuring safety. The former formula is potent for emergency rescue; the latter is mild. Dan Sha (Cinnabar) is the mother of Shui Yin (Mercury); like child meeting mother, they do not separate. When Cinnabar exits, Calomel also exits. If the nasal bridge has collapsed and tissue is rotten, use HuBi San to save life, though the nose may not regrow, death can be avoided.
1. Yang Mei Chuang with abundant pus and foul odor is often mistaken for excessive toxin, leading to the use of toxic-clearing drugs. This "clearing" actually increases toxin severity and worsens sores. Use Er Sheng Tang (Two-Generation Decoction).
Er Sheng Tang (Two-Generation Decoction)
Sheng Huang Qi (Raw Astragalus Root) (1 liang) Tu Fu Ling (Smilax Glabra Rhizome) (2 liang) Gan Cao (Licorice Root, raw) (3 qian)
Decoct in water. Four doses make sores red and vibrant; four more doses dry them completely; four final doses ensure recovery. If pain is severe due to heavy toxin, add Dang Gui (1 liang), Yin Hua (2 liang), and double Tu Fu Ling. For constipation, add Zi Cao (Arnebia Root) (3 qian).
