Located in the fingers and palms, resembling cornel fruits (Zhu Yu), appearing symmetrically on both hands, or sometimes clustered together. Yellowish-white pustules arise, accompanied by intermittent itching and pain. Upon rupture, yellow exudate flows out. Apply a mixture of Xiang Mo (Fragrant powder), Ku Fan Mo (Alum powder) each weighing 8 qian, and Xiong Huang Xi Mo (Realgar fine powder) weighing 1 liang. Mix evenly, allow to cool to a suitable temperature, and apply topically until cured. Avoid foods that stir up wind, as well as chicken, goose, and fishy foods.
This condition is named "Fox Thorn" (Huli Ci) in *Waike Dacheng* (Complete Book of External Medicine), and "Fox Urine Thorn" (Huxiao Ci) in *Waitai Miyao* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold for Emergencies) and *Zonglu*. It is attributed to the semen of a mantis contaminating the area during mating in intense summer heat. The mantis is also known as "Wild Fox Nasal Discharge," and the name of this condition derives from this folklore. Another theory states that Fox Urine Thorn presents with painful pores containing parasites; applying Qu Mo (Fermented grain powder) mixed with pounded single-clove garlic into the sores expels the parasites and leads to cure.
For dryness, itching, peeling, induration, suppuration, and fissuring of the palms and soles, wash the affected areas with hot foam from tofu water. For mild cases, apply Pi You (Arsenic Oil) three to four times daily until healed. For severe, chronic cases spreading over the entire hand with extreme dryness and cracking, use Er Fan Tang (Two Alum Decoction).
Pi You Formula: Hong Pi (Red Arsenic) 1 qian, crushed to the size of rice grains. Boil in 1 liang of Sesame Oil (Mahu You) until the arsenic is calcined and smoke ceases. Remove the arsenic residue and retain the oil for use. For any area affected by wind pathogens, first warm the skin with fire, then rub with the oil three times daily until cured.
Er Fan Tang: Bai Fan (White Alum) 4 liang, Zao Fan (Green Vitriol) 4 liang, Er Cha (Child's Tea/Catechu) 5 qian, Ce Bai Ye (Biota Top Leaf) 0.5 jin. Decoct these ingredients in ten bowls of water. First, apply Tung You (Tung Oil) to the affected area, cover it to trap the steam, and do not let the vapor escape. Once the decoction is slightly warm, dip and wash the area for an extended period; one treatment may suffice. Avoid contact with raw water for seven days to prevent recurrence permanently.
This refers to Onychomycosis (Greasy Gray Nail). Mash White Fengxian Hua (White Balsam Apple Flower) and apply it to the nail, changing it daily. By the time the flowering season of the balsam apple passes, the gray nails will heal.
If the nail suddenly grows inward into the flesh, causing stabbing pain like a cone, consuming Kui Cai (Malva verticillata/Sesame Mallow) will lead to recovery.
For polydactyly (Yazhi) on the hand causing unbearable pain, grind Tong Cao (Tetrapanax Pith) into powder, mix with Ji Zi Qing (Egg White), and apply topically for cure.
Formula for Treating Yazhi: Take uncalcined stones from Duan Shi (Burnt Alumen), pour raw honey over them, and grind/melt them on a rough stone. Apply to the affected area; it heals overnight.
