The axilla, (commonly known as the armpit.) The sinews of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian enter the axilla. The sinews of the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian and the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian knot at the axilla. The sinews of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian traverse the axilla. The sinews of the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Collateral reach the axilla.
(The area under the arm is called "Yuan" [Abyss].)
The hypochondrium, (the area below the ribs is the hypochondrium.) The meridians of the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian and the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian both distribute to the hypochondrium. The sinews and meridians of the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Collateral flank the hypochondrium.
The costal margin, (below the hypochondrium, the small ribs, commonly known as soft ribs.) The sinews of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian reach the costal margin. The meridians of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian pass over the costal margin.
(The empty, soft depression without ribs below the costal margin is called "Jinggu". The sinews of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian pass through this area.)
The ribs, (behind the hypochondrium are the ribs.) The sinews of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian knot at the ribs. The meridians of the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian distribute to the ribs.
Axillary carbuncle and axillary ulcer occur in the center of the axilla. Yuan abscess occurs three cun below the axilla, between the axillary spaces. Costal carbuncle and costal ulcer, also known as "Jia Ying", occur between the rib bones. Hypochondrial carbuncle and hypochondrial ulcer grow near the soft flesh below the ribs, also referred to as costal margin carbuncle and ulcer. All these conditions are treated according to the principles for Yang carbuncles and Yin ulcers.
Carbuncles arising in the armpit are hard in texture, shaped like a nail head, purple-black in color, itchy and painful, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, stiffness and tension of the four limbs, or irritability and vomiting, with pain radiating to half of the back. The treatment method is the same as for Ding sores (hard carbuncles).
(Fox odor, also known as body odor.)
Patients with fox odor have several brown-lined pores in the axilla, from which the odor emanates. There are many treatment methods, but few can eradicate the root cause; they merely suffice to block the pores. Use high-quality copper green (Chrysocolla), an unspecified amount, mixed with rice vinegar into a paste. First, wash the axilla clean with a soap pod decoction, sprinkle Calomel (Mercurous Chloride) over it, and then apply the paste. Internal prescription: Garlic Stomach Recipe. Take one male pig's stomach, insert forty-nine cloves of garlic, peeled, into the stomach, tie it tightly with thread, and boil in water until extremely soft. Dip the stomach in salt and vinegar and eat as desired.
Another method:
Place one toad inside the stomach, boil it until soft as described above, remove the toad and garlic, and consume the stomach with warm wine. Bathe to induce sweating, avoid wind for three days, and the odor will change immediately.
