Sanpin Dingzi (Three-Grade Pastilles):
Superior Grade: Removes eighteen types of hemorrhoids.
Baimingshan (Alumen), Bai Bi (Realgar/White Arsenic - Note: Text says Bai Bi, usually refers to White Arsenic/Realgar mixture or specifically White Arsenic in some contexts, here likely White Arsenic given context of caustic), Xuxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha) (each 3.5 qian), Niuhuang (Bovis Calculus) (3 qian).
Medium Grade: Removes five types of fistulas, and Fan Hua Liu (Reflowering Tumors) and Qi He (Gas Nodules).
Baimingshan (Alumen) (2 liang), Bai Bi (1.3 liang), Xuxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha) (each 3.5 qian), Niuhuang (Bovis Calculus) (2 qian).
Inferior Grade: Treats Luo Li (Scrofula), Qi He, Ding Chuang (Carbuncle/Furuncle), Fa Bei (Back Carbuncle), Nao Ju, and other malignant conditions.
Baimingshan (Alumen) (2 liang), Bai Bi (1.5 liang), Xuxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha) (each 2.5 qian), Niuhuang (Bovis Calculus) (3 fen).
Place Bai Bi powder in a purple clay jar, cover with Baimingshan powder. Calcine with charcoal fire until smoke ceases. Grind all medicines into extremely fine powder. Mix with glutinous rice paste to form pastilles like incense sticks. Dry in shade. Insert into wound 3-4 times (5-6 times for chronic cases) until roots rot. If wound is exposed externally, apply honey-water mixture; dry application is also possible.
An old woman once treated scrofula with this, demanding high prices. She used the Medium Grade pastille inserted into the wound, covered with plaster. Roots rotted naturally. Repeat until gone, then apply muscle-generating medicine. Cured in days. People were amazed. It is effective only if qi and blood are not deficient. Deficient patients cannot heal even after ulceration/debridement. This works alongside Bixiao San (Sure-Effect Powder) as both are toxin-expelling and pathogen-removing agents.
Rushen Qianjin Fang (Miraculous Thousand-Gold Prescription):
Effective for all hemorrhoids.
Hao Xinshi (Good Realgar/Stibnite - Note: Xinshi usually refers to Realgar or Antimony Sulfide, here likely Realgar or specific mineral), Ming Yan (Bright Yellow Lead Oxide/Huangdan - Note: Text says Hao Huangdan, usually Minium), Bai Mingfan (Alumen) (1 liang, powdered), Hao Huangdan (Minium) (5 qian, flown and stir-fried), Xeshao (Scorpion Tail) (7 pieces, cleaned, baked on tile, powdered), Caowu (Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata/Raw) (bright solid ones, peeled, raw ground, 5 qian).
Use a purple clay jar. Heat charcoal until red, cool, wipe clean. Add Alumen first, heat until boiling. Add Xinshi, mix well. Use mild heat. Boil and stir until jar glows red and smoke rises. Remove jar, cool, grind to powder. Add Huangdan, Caowu, Xeshao, grind extremely fine. Store in porcelain jar. Before application, cleanse wound with Licorice soup or Scallion/Pepper soup. Mix powder with raw sesame oil. Apply with goose feather brush to hemorrhoids. Apply 3 times daily. Yellow sticky fluid must discharge for hemorrhoids to shrink. Chronic cases cured within 10 days. Recent cases turn to yellow fluid and roots are removed. Apply muscle-generating medicine thereafter. All five types of hemorrhoids can be treated. This was Cao Wu's prescription from Lin'an presented to Emperor Gaozong.
Togu Dan (Bone-Penetrating Elixir):
A pus-draining medicine essential in surgery.
Chansu (Bufonis Venenum), Pengsha (Boris Borax), Qingfen (Calomel), Badou (Crotonis Fructus) (each 5 qian), Woniu (Helix), Shexiang (Moschus) (1 fen).
First grind Badou into paste. Add Woniu and Shexiang, grind again. Add remaining herbs, grind extremely fine. Store in small porcelain bottle. Use a small amount, dissolve in milk. Gently puncture the abscess head with a needle. Pick up a grain-sized amount of medicine and insert into the wound. Cover with cooling ointment plaster externally.
Jinyinhua Jiu (Honeysuckle Wine):
Treats all carbuncles, back abscesses, ding chuang (furuncles), and throat bi (obstruction).
Crush Jinyinhua Tengye (Lonicerae Japonicae Caulis et Folium), extract half a zhong of juice. Mix with half a zhong of hot wine. Take warm. Severe cases resolve in 3-5 doses.
Wujin Gao (Black Gold Ointment):
Treats central necrosis in back abscesses. Causes necrotic tissue to slough and healthy tissue to regenerate. For initial swelling/pain, dot application dissolves toxicity instantly. For black necrotic flesh, causes ulceration. For stubborn sores with intact yuan qi but slow healing (internal toxic root), dip paper wick in medicine and insert. For back abscesses due to weak yuan qi or over-treatment, with scattered toxicity (dark center, red periphery, non-ulcerating), administer major tonics. Apply ointment centrally for 3-4 cun. After 5-6 days, cracks appear at the boundary. Center ulcerates/sloughs. Use pure yang medicines internally to support yuan qi for healing. Do not use knife/needle to cut flesh/blood, as this scatters yang qi and damages yuan qi. Do not apply cooling medicines, as they trap toxicity and deplete qi-blood. Formula: Stir-fry Badou meat until black, grind to paste. Dot on swelling or apply to necrotic flesh to dissolve. Add Xuxiang or Sesame Oil if needed. For residual toxins not healing, sprinkle this powder to prevent pain formation.
Che'ao San (Clam Powder):
Treats initial swelling/pain of carbuncles/ulcers, or youth with excess heat/back abscesses. Urgently promote toxin discharge via bowel movement until heat subsides. Suitable for adults and children in all seasons.
Zibei Che'ao (Tridacna Gigas Shell) (one, sealed with salt mud, calcined red-hot, buried in ground to remove fire toxicity), Qingfen (Calomel), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 2 qian); Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (5 qian); Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Loulu (Rhapontici Radix) (deveined), Gugen (Puerariae Radix) (each half liang).
Grind into powder. Take 2 qian each time, washed down with Mint soup. Rapid purgation desired. Wine is also acceptable.
Lafan Wan (Beeswax-Alum Pill):
Over one liang taken yields results. Best for pain relief, does not damage zang-fu organs, saves countless lives.
Baimingshan (Alumen) (1 liang), Huangla (Beeswax) (half liang), Baimi (White Honey) (2 qian).
Mix and make pills size of tung seeds. Take 19 pills, increase to 50. Wash down with warm wine. Unbroken sores resolve; broken sores close. Taking 100 pills daily prevents internal attack of toxic vapors and protects membranes. Total course half a jin. Excellent post-healing maintenance. For snake bites, melt alum, drop hot liquid on wound to stop pain. Another method: Fly Alumen, grind fine. Mix with egg white to paste consistency. Drink with unfiltered aged wine. Danxi commented: *Jingyao* Vol 1 states: Regardless of carbuncle/ulcer/furuncle, deficiency/excess, cold/heat, first use Neituo San, Wuxiang Lianqiao Tang, Chen She Tang etc. Neutral nature, suitable for all ages/constitutions. Excessive use is considered ideal. However, sores/ulcers vary in depth, deficiency/excess, cold/heat. Medicines have tonifying/purging, warming/cooling properties. Ages/constitutions vary. How can neutral formulas universally treat all? And why is "more is better" advised? Scholars must examine meridians and pathogenesis. Cannot rely on this as a universal method.
