Chuang (sores/ulcers) are all caused by deficiency-cold of the Kidney, where wind-pathogenic toxic qi attacks externally from beside the Zusanli (ST36) acupoint, pouring into the side of the Yinjiao (RN7) acupoint. The wind-heat toxic qi flows and accumulates in both legs, generating sores that swell, ulcerate, become painful, foul-smelling, and make walking difficult. Sores located near the bone are considered severe because there is little muscle and thin skin over the bone, making them difficult to heal. Some may persist for years without cessation, with open sore mouths, rotting skin and exposed flesh, and a terrifyingly foul odor. The treatment method should first involve removing insects/worms, followed by applying topical medications such as Gezhi Gao (Paper-Separating Ointment) or Shexiang Qingfen San (Musk and Calomel Powder). It is also advisable to take internal formulas such as Huang Wan (Yellow Pill) and Shenxian Lafan Wan (Immortal's Beeswax and Alum Pill). One must sit upright with feet elevated, avoiding excessive walking, so that full recovery can be achieved.
Gezhi Gao (Paper-Separating Ointment)
Treats various internal and external Chuang (sores/ulcers).
Danggui Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Donggui), Baizhi Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong (Baizhi), Huanglian Rhizoma Coptidis (Huanglian), Wubeizi Galla Chinensis (Wubeizi), Xionghuang Realgar (Xionghuang), Moyao Resina Olibani (Moyao), Xuexie Sanguis Draconis (Xuexie), Haipiaoxiao Os Sepiae (Haipiaoxiao), Baiji Rhizoma Bletillae (Baiji), Bailian Bulbus Lilii (Bailian), Huangbai Cortex Phellodendri (Huangbai), Houpo Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis (Nongpu) (each half tael above); Huangdan Lithargyrum (Litharge) (six qian); Ruxiang Resina Olibani (Ruxiang) (two and a half qian, ground); Qingfen Calomelas (Qingfen) (one qian).
Grind the above into fine powder and mix evenly. Blend with clear sesame oil to form an ointment. Apply the medication using oil paper, cover the sore, and bind securely with silk gauze. If pus or exudate appears, remove the dressing, scrape away impurities, and reapply the medication. Repeat this several times until healed. First, wash the sore thoroughly with boiled salt water, wipe dry with a cloth piece, wait for the moisture to evaporate, and then apply the medicine.
Treatment for chronic non-healing sores
Longgu Os Draconis et Mammutis (Longgu) (two and a half qian), Qingfen Calomelas (a small amount), Binglang Semen Arecae (Binglang) (half tael), Ruxiang Resina Olibani (Ruxiang), Moyao Resina Olibani (Moyao) (each one qian), Gan Zhufen Dried Pig Feces (Gan Zhufen) (half tael, charred to retain properties).
Grind into fine powder. First wash the sore with boiled salt water, wipe dry with soft silk gauze, blend with clear sesame oil for application; if the sore is wet, sprinkle the powder directly.
Treatment for sores with downward flow
Baishizhi Halloysitum Rubrum (Baishizhi), Longgu Os Draconis et Mammutis (Longgu) (each half tael), Baifan Alumen (Baifan) (one tael, calcined), Wubeizi Galla Chinensis (Wubeizi) (two taels, charred to retain properties), Huangdan Lithargyrum (Huangdan) (three qian, purified), Xionghuang Realgar (Xionghuang) (a small amount).
Grind into fine powder. First wash the sore with scallion and salt water until red muscle tissue is visible, then apply the aforementioned medication. If the sore is thick, wrap it tightly with cloth and keep it immobile until it dries and the necrotic skin falls off naturally.
Formula for treating sores
Baiji Rhizoma Bletillae (Baiji), Bailian Bulbus Lilii (Bailian), Huangbai Cortex Phellodendri (Huangbai), Huangdan Lithargyrum (Huangdan) (separately ground, equal parts).
Grind into extremely fine powder, add a small amount of Qingfen Calomelas (Qingfen) and mix evenly. Blend with refined honey to form a paste, shape into cakes, and apply to the sore. Fill deep sores completely, wrap with cloth pieces, and change once daily. As the sore gradually dries or cracks, simply sprinkle powder until healed.
Cuiyu Gao (Jade Green Ointment)
Treats sores.
Qingli Ashphaltum Bituminis (Qingli), Tonglv Cupri Acetas Viridis (Tonglv) (ground), Huangla Beeswax (Huangla) (each two qian), Ruxiang Resina Olibani (Ruxiang) (ground), Moyao Resina Olibani (Moyao) (ground, each three qian).
First blend Tonglv Cupri Acetas Viridis (Tonglv) with oil. Melt Qingli Ashphaltum Bituminis (Qingli) and Huangla Beeswax (Huangla) over fire, add the green powder and stir evenly. Then add the powdered Ruxiang Resina Olibani (Ruxiang) and Moyao Resina Olibani (Moyao), stirring until uniform. Pour into a basin of river water and mix well. Wrap in oil paper and chew to soften. Shape into cakes and apply to the sore, wrapping with red silk gauze. Keep until the sore heals and the medication falls off naturally.
Formula for treating sores
Dongqingye Folium Ilicis Hainanensis (Dongqingye), La Zhudan Porcine Gallbladder (La Zhudan), Baicaoshang Carbonis Herbae (Baicaoshang) (mix these two ingredients evenly).
Chew Dongqingye Folium Ilicis Hainanensis (Dongqingye) together with the patient until mashed. First wash the sore with scallion and pepper water, apply the pig gallbladder mixture, and then apply the chewed herb. Three to four applications will yield wonderful results.
Qiymiao Zhizi San (Wonderful Gardenia Powder)
Treats long-standing internal and external sores.
Shanzhizi Fructus Gardeniae (Shanzhizi) (any amount, burned to ash, ground to fine powder), Ruxiang Resina Olibani (Ruxiang) (separately ground, half qian each), Qingfen Calomelas (Qingfen) (a small amount).
Mix evenly and store in a porcelain container. When using, first wash the sore with a decoction of scallion white and Sichuan pepper. After resting, wash again with warm fermented rice water. Once foul discharge is removed, boil Baizhu Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu) in water for a hundred boils, let it cool to a suitable temperature, and wash again. Ensure no pus or blood streaks remain in the sore mouth, and that clear fluids are gone. Wipe dry with a cotton cloth piece, then apply medication. For dry sores, blend with sesame oil; for wet sores, sprinkle powder directly, filling the sore mouth completely, and protect with soft silk gauze. Do not use if the area is hard and does not suppurate; if swollen and soft indicating pus, follow the previous washing method, then apply and bandage. Two to three treatments will result in healing. This demonstrates the efficacy of one medication combined with two washings.
Fenshe San (Powder and Musk Powder)
Treats external sores with foul odor and ulceration that have persisted for decades.
Sheng Gui Tortoise Shell (Sheng Gui) (one live black tortoise, kill, remove meat, take shell. Roast in one bowl of vinegar until vinegar is consumed, ensuring white smoke dissipates to preserve properties, cover with a bowl and place on ground).

If adding Baizhi Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong (Baizhi), Chuanxiong Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), and Haipiaoxiao Os Sepiae (Haipiaoxiao), grind all into fine powder. Melt Lao Songxiang Pinus Resin (Lao Songxiang), add a little clear sesame oil and mix. Use oil paper to form bags according to the size of the sore, fill with medication, and sandwich/bandage. Wash with water, bind the medication to the sore mouth, and change every two to four days. If using only Baizhi Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong (Baizhi), Chuanxiong Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), and Haipiaoxiao Os Sepiae (Haipiaoxiao) alone, decoct in water for washing yields immediate effect.
