火吐若降火,则火由脾而入于大肠,必变为便血之症,方宜清水(火)止吐汤∶
茯苓(一两) 人参(二钱) 砂仁(三粒) 黄连(三钱) 水煎服

If Fire-induced vomiting (vomiting caused by fire pathogen) is treated with methods to descend fire, the fire pathogen will enter the Large Intestine from the Spleen, inevitably transforming into hematochezia (blood in stool). In this case, Qing Shui Zhi Tu Tang (Clear Water Vomiting-Stopping Decoction) is appropriate:
Fuling (Poria, 1 liang), Renshen (Ginseng, 2 qian), Sharen (Amomum fruit, 3 grains), Huanglian (Coptis rhizome, 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
If Cold-induced vomiting (vomiting caused by cold pathogen) is treated with methods to descend cold, the cold pathogen will be introduced into the Kidney and flow into the Bladder, inevitably transforming into enuresis (involuntary urination). In this case, Zhi Ou San Han Tang (Vomiting-Stopping and Cold-Dispersing Decoction) is appropriate:
Baizhu (Atractylodes macrocephala rhizome, 2 liang), Renshen (Ginseng, 5 qian), Fuzi (Prepared aconite root, 1 qian), Ganjiang (Dried ginger, 1 qian), Dingxiang (Clove, 5 fen). Decoct in water and take orally.
This formula disperses cold while using herbs that tonify the Spleen; thus, the cold cannot surge upward nor descend downward, and consequently must exit through the umbilicus.
Vomiting and diarrhea due to Kidney cold result from Heart cold and weak Stomach, characterized by incessant vomiting where food is expelled after remaining for a long time; and persistent dysentery, characterized by pain and defecation three to five times during the third watch of the night (Wu Geng Shi).
Shudi (Rehmannia glutinosa root, 3 liang), Shanyurou (Cornus officinalis fruit, 2 liang), Fuling (Poria, 3 liang), Renshen (Ginseng, 3 liang), Bei Wuweizi (Schisandra chinensis fruit, 1 liang), Shanyao (Dioscorea opposita rhizome, 4 liang)... [Text fragment missing]
Those who can eat but fail to digest their food have a diseased Spleen rather than a diseased Stomach. Treatment should focus on tonifying the Spleen, which particularly benefits from tonifying the Mingmen Fire (Gate of Life fire) within the Kidney.
Those who cannot eat, yet feel fine after eating, have a diseased Stomach rather than a diseased Spleen. One should not tonify the Mingmen Fire within the Kidney, but rather tonify the Heart Fire.
People often see a lack of appetite and immediately attribute it to Spleen and Stomach disease, without distinguishing that Stomach deficiency-cold is attributed to the Heart, and Spleen deficiency-cold is attributed to the Kidney.
Simultaneous tonification of the Heart and Kidney is indeed effective for treating dual deficiency of the Spleen and Stomach. However, if it is merely Stomach deficiency-cold, it is best to treat the Heart alone. The formula uses:
Renshen (Ginseng, 1 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodes macrocephala rhizome, 3 liang), Fushen (Poria with hostwood, 3 liang), Changpu (Acorus tatarinowii rhizome, 5 qian), Liangjiang (Galangal rhizome, 5 qian), Baijiezi (White mustard seed, 3 liang), Baishao (White peony root, 2 liang). Grind these into powder, form pills with honey, and take 3 qian daily with boiling water.
Stomach Earth suffers from Spleen deficiency; when Spleen Qi fails to descend, it necessarily rebels upward causing vomiting. Tonifying the Spleen stabilizes the Stomach. The formula uses:
Renshen (Ginseng, 3 qian), Fuling (Poria, 3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodes macrocephala rhizome, 5 qian), Gancao (Licorice root, 1 qian), Rougui (Cinnamon bark, 1 qian), Shenqu (Medicated leaven, 1 liang)... [Text fragment missing]
Why does this formula treat Stomach disease by tonifying Spleen Earth? Because the Stomach serves as the gate for the Spleen. The turbulence at the gate results from chaos within the pass. Therefore, to achieve efficacy... [Text fragment missing]
