If the Zang-Fu organs are weak, wind-cold pathogens may combine and cause chronic upward rebellion of Qi (a condition characterized by long-term rebellious flow of Qi upwards).
Formula for treating chronic upward rebellion of Qi with panting and urgency, where sitting or lying down is uncomfortable: Mahuang San (Ephedra Powder).
Ingredients: Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) (1 liang, remove roots and nodes), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, 杏仁) (1 liang, soak in water, remove skin and sharp points, discard twin kernels, stir-fry with bran until slightly yellow), Poria Cocos with Red Bark (Chifuling, 赤茯苓) (1 liang), Cortex Morus Radicis (Sangbaipí, 桑白皮) (1 liang, scrape off outer rough bark).
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients and sieve them to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add one zhan of water and half a piece of fresh Ginger Rhizome (Shengjiang, 生姜). Decoct until five fen of liquid remains. Strain out the dregs. Take warm at any time.
