Leprosy-like diseases (Lai Ji) are all caused by the invasion of evil wind pathogens, as well as by violating taboos and suffering from harmful influences. Initially, the skin and hair may turn black, or there may be intense itching resembling the sensation of insects crawling on the skin, or visual disturbances where objects appear like hanging silk threads.
Pi Wan Fang (Snake Skin Pill Formula) for treating Wu Lai (Black Leprosy):
Take She Tui (Ophichan's Skin, one piece, roasted until charred yellow), Kui Ge (Tridacna Shell, one piece), Ran She Tou (Rat Snake Head, one piece, coated with butter and roasted until slightly yellow), Meng Chong (Blue Bottle Fly Larva, three pieces, stir-fried until slightly yellow), Qi Lao (Cricket Grub, three pieces, stir-fried until rice-yellow), Wu Gong (Centipede, one piece, remove head and feet, stir-fried until slightly yellow), Ba Dou (Croton Seed, ten pieces, remove skin and heart, stir-fried), Da Huang (Rhubarb Root, 1 liang).
The above herbs are crushed, sifted into fine powder, mixed evenly with the prepared powders, and bound with refined honey to form pills the size of small beans. Take one pill per dose, washed down with warm water, once on an empty stomach and once before bed. If ineffective, gradually increase the dose to two pills.
Xiong Huang Tu Yao Fang (Realgar Topical Application Formula) for treating Wu Lai, characterized by blackened skin, sores, swelling, pain, and insecticidal properties:
Take Xiong Huang (Realgar, 1 liang), Bai Fan (Alum, 1 liang), Zi Shi Ying (Purple Quartz, 1 liang), Bai Shi Ying (White Quartz, 1 liang), Ma Ya Xiao (Saltpeter, 1 liang), Tai Yin Xuan Jing Shi (Taiyin Black Crystal Stone, 1 liang).
The above herbs are crushed and ground into fine powder, placed in a porcelain container, sealed tightly with white clay mud, dried, and then calcined with five jin of charcoal fire until red-hot. Remove from fire, cover with soil to cool. Apply the powder mixed with an appropriate vehicle to the affected area.
Liu Huang San Fang (Sulfur Powder Formula) for treating Wu Lai with chronic non-healing sores:
Take Liu Huang (Sulfur), Shui Fu Shi (Pumice), Huai Bai Pi (Bark of Sophora Tree), Han Shui Shi (Halloysite), Bai Fan (Alum), Bu Hui Mu (Asbestos Fiber), Wo Niu Zi (Snail), Mu Li (Oyster Shell), Jin Xing Fan Shi (Venus Star Alum Stone), Yin Xing Fan Shi (Silver Star Alum Stone), Chan Tui (Cicada Slough).
Except for Bai Fan (Alum) which is used in the amount of 5 qian, each of the other herbs is used in the amount of 1 qian. Crush and grind into fine powder. Mix with 0.5 liang of Mercury, grinding with saliva until it forms a paste-like consistency. Then add Ni Fen (Lead Subcarbonate, 1 fen) and mix well.
Da Hei Shen Gao Fang (Great Black Divine Ointment Formula) for treating Wu Lai, generalized sores over the body, and those with abundant pus and blood:
Chuan Wu Tou (Aconite Lateral Root, 0.5 liang), Xiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome, 0.5 liang), Xiong Huang (Realgar, 0.5 liang, added after grinding), Hu Fen (Lead Subcarbonate, 0.5 liang, added after grinding), Ba Dou (Croton Seed, 14 pieces, remove skin and heart), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, 0.5 liang, remove fibrous parts).
Cut the above herbs finely into sizes similar to soybeans. Simmer in 2 sheng of lard along with the herbs until tangled hair is completely dissolved. Filter out the dregs. Then add Xiong Huang (Realgar), Ci Huang (Orpiment), and Hu Fen (Lead Subcarbonate), mix uniformly, and allow to cool before use.
Feng Fang Nian Jiu Fang (Honeycomb Wine Fermentation Formula) for treating Wu Lai:
Lu Feng Fang (Honeycomb, 5 liang), Ku Shen (Sophora Root, 4 jin).
Cut the above herbs finely. Boil in 3 dou of water until reduced to 1.2 dou. Strain out the dregs. Use this decoction to soak 4.5 jin of Qu (fermentation starter). Cook 3 dou of Sorghum Rice, mix with the Qu, and ferment to produce wine.
Sha Chong Fang (Insect-Killing Formula) for treating Wu Lai sores:
Ci Huang (Orpiment, quantity not limited).
Grind Ci Huang (Orpiment) into a fine powder. Mix evenly with Vinegar and Egg Yolk. Apply to the sores. Reapply when dry.
