To treat postpartum conditions caused by labor injury, where blood and qi are disharmonious and mutually overacting. When Yang is in excess, there is heat; when Yin is in excess, there is cold. The interaction of Yin and Yang leads to alternating chills and fever.
For postpartum deficiency with alternating chills and fever occurring intermittently, weakness in the four limbs, mental restlessness and oppression, and loss of appetite, use the Porcine Kidney Decoction (Zhushen Tang).
Porcine Kidney (one pair, remove fatty membrane, cut into four pieces), Fermented Soybean (Douchi, half tael), Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang, half tael, crushed), White Glutinous Rice (Baijingmi, one tael), Ginseng Root (Renshen, half tael).
Finely chop the above herbs. Add two large bowls of water, decoct until one bowl remains. Strain and divide into three doses, taken before meals.
To treat postpartum stagnation of blood and qi, physical weakness, intermittent chills and fever, pain in bone joints, and weakness in the four limbs, use the Chuanxiong Powder (Xiongsan Fang).
Sichuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong), Dried Rehmannia Root (Shenggan Dihuang), Herba Centipedae (Liujinu), Aralia Continentalis Ramulus (Guijianyu), Notopterygium Rhizome and Root (Qianghuo), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui) (finely chopped and lightly stir-fried, each three qian), Bupleurum Root (Chaihu) (one tael, remove sprouts), Turtle Carapace (Biejia) (one tael, vinegar-processed, remove skirt).
Pulverize the above herbs into a coarse powder. Take three qian per dose. Add one medium bowl of water and half a piece of ginger, decoct until six-tenths remain. Strain and take warm at any time.
To treat postpartum high fever with aversion to cold, weakness in the four limbs, and loss of appetite, use the Anemarrhena Powder (Zhimusan Fang).
Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhimu), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui) (finely chopped and lightly stir-fried), Aralia Continentalis Ramulus (Guijianyu), Herba Centipedae (Liujinu), Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) (each one tael), Peach Kernel (Taoren) (one tael, soaked in warm water, remove skin and pointed ends, double kernels removed, lightly stir-fried with bran).
Pulverize the above herbs into a coarse powder. Take three qian per dose. Add half a medium bowl of water and half a medium bowl of wine, decoct until six-tenths remain. Strain and take warm at any time.
To treat postpartum intermittent chills and fever, pain in bone joints, weakness in the four limbs, and sallow complexion, use the Astragalus Powder (Huangqisan Fang).
Astragalus Root (Huangqi) (one tael, finely chopped), Prepared Aconite Lateral Root (Fuzi) (three qian, processed until cracked, remove skin and bud), Aralia Continentalis Ramulus (Guijianyu) (half tael), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui) (two qian, finely chopped and lightly stir-fried), Sichuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong) (half tael), Peach Kernel (Taoren) (one tael, soaked in warm water, remove skin and pointed ends, double kernels removed, lightly stir-fried with bran).
Pulverize the above herbs into a coarse powder. Take four qian per dose. Add one medium bowl of water and half a piece of ginger, decoct until six-tenths remain. Strain and take warm at any time.
To treat postpartum stagnation of blood and qi, intermittent chills and fever, painful bone joints, dry and cracked lips, and mental oppression and confusion, use the Red Peony Root Powder (Chishaoyao San Fang).
Red Peony Root (Chishaoyao), Ginseng Root (Renshen) (remove rhizome), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng) (remove rhizome), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui) (finely chopped and lightly stir-fried), Dried Rehmannia Root (Shenggan Dihuang), Safflower (Honglanhua), Lotus Node (Oujie) (each one tael).
Pulverize the above herbs into a coarse powder. Take four qian per dose. Add one medium bowl of water, half a piece of ginger, and fifty black soybeans, decoct until six-tenths remain. Strain and take warm at any time.
To treat postpartum chills and fever with headache, painful hands and feet, slow expulsion of lochia, and stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, use the Safflower Powder (Honglanhua San Fang).
Safflower (Honglanhua) (one tael), Chrysanthemum Flower (Ganjuahua), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui) (finely chopped and lightly stir-fried), Sichuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong), Curcuma Zedoaria Rhizome (Peng'ezhu), Red Peony Root (Chishaoyao), Aralia Continentalis Ramulus (Guijianyu), Cinnamon Twig (Guixin) (each half tael), Peach Kernel (Taoren) (one tael, soaked in warm water, remove skin and pointed ends, double kernels removed, lightly stir-fried with bran), Licorice Root (Gancao) (three qian, honey-roasted until slightly yellow, finely chopped).
