Metrorrhagia refers to the symptom of continuous and dripping discharge of lochia after childbirth. This condition arises from damage to the menstrual blood postpartum, leading to deficiency and insufficiency; or it results from incomplete expulsion of lochia (stagnant blood) during delivery, which remains in the abdomen and affects the function of the Zang-Fu organs.
For metrorrhagia accompanied by chest oppression, shortness of breath, weakness and fatigue in the four limbs, inability to eat, and heaviness and dizziness of the head and eyes, use Oyster Shell Powder (Muli San).
Ingredients: Calcined Oyster Shell (Mu Li, burned into powder), Ligusticum Rhizome (Chuan Xiong), Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shu Di Huang), Poria (Bai Fu Ling), Dragon Bone (Long Gu) [each 1 liang], Dipsacus Root (Xu Duan), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui) [chopped and lightly stir-fried], Mugwort Leaf (Ai Ye).
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients and sieve coarsely to make a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1 zhong of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 2 jujubes. Decoct until 6 fen of liquid remains, strain, and take warm before meals.
For metrorrhagia accompanied by pain in the heart and abdomen and loss of appetite, use Donkey-Hide Gelatin Powder (Ejiao San).
