After the purgative method is applied to Taiyang disease (a syndrome caused by pathogenic factors invading the Taiyang meridian) in cold damage, wheezing occurs because the exterior pathogen has not yet been resolved. If a patient drinks water after sweating, wheezing will inevitably occur; this is due to fluid retention in the epigastrium, where kidney qi rebels upward and attacks the heart, causing wheezing. Alternatively, excessive water intake may lead to water qi entering the kidney, also resulting in wheezing.
For cold damage complicated with irritability, heat, and rapid breathing, the Mahuang San (Cinnamon Twig Powder) formula is suitable.
Ingredients: Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) [roots and nodes removed], Akebiae Caulis (Mutong, 木通) [chopped], Perillae Caulis et Folium (Zisu Jingye, 紫苏茎叶), Poria Cocos cum Ligno (Chifuling, 赤茯苓), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shenggan Dihuang, 生干地黄), Immature Bitter Orange (Zhishi, 枳实) [bran-fried until slightly yellow], Ophiopogonis Tuber (Tianmendong, 天门冬) [heart removed and baked, each half liang above], Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) [one fen, honey-fried until slightly red and chopped].
Preparation and Administration: The above ingredients are coarsely ground into a powder. Take four qian per dose, decoct with one zhong of water and half a fen of fresh ginger until reduced to six parts. Strain and take warm at any time.
For cold damage complicated with irritability, wheezing, chest and diaphragm fullness, and loss of appetite, the Zisu San (Perilla Powder) formula is suitable.

Preparation and Administration: The above ingredients are finely ground into a powder. Take four qian per dose, decoct with one zhong of water and half a fen of fresh ginger until reduced to six parts. Strain and take warm at any time.
For cold damage accompanied by mental restlessness, rapid breathing, cough with rebellious qi, profuse saliva, and hemoptysis, the Shenggan Dihuang San (Dried Rehmannia Powder) formula is suitable.
