Cold Phlegm-Fluid Retention is a condition caused by the deficiency and weakness of Stomach Qi, which fails to distribute and transform water and grain. Consequently, phlegm and fluid accumulate and stagnate between the chest and diaphragm. This frequently causes symptoms such as acid regurgitation, rebellious Qi rising upward, cyanosis of the four limbs, and an inability to eat or drink.
For treating Phlegm-Fluid Retention presenting with abdominal and hypochondriac distension and fullness, vomiting and rebellious Qi, inability to ingest food, and cold sensation in the chest, use Qianhu San (Peucedani Radix Powder).
Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) [1 liang, remove rhizome node], Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [1 liang, wash seven times with boiling water to remove slipperiness], Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) [0.5 liang], Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) [0.5 liang, processed until cracked and chopped], Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) [1 liang, soak in water, remove white pith, dry-roast or bake], Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [0.5 liang], Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) [0.5 liang, remove rhizome node].
Crush and sieve the above ingredients into a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add 1 zhan of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until 0.5 zhan remains. Strain and take warm at any time.
For treating cold stagnation in the heart and diaphragm, phlegm-fluid retention causing vomiting and rebellious Qi, inability to ingest food, and disharmony of the four limbs, use Helile San (Chebulae Fructus Powder).
Helilepi (Pericarpium Chebulae) [3 fen], Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) [1 liang, remove rough bark, coat with fresh ginger juice, roast until fragrant and cooked], Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) [3 fen, remove rhizome node], Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [3 fen], Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [1 liang, wash seven times with boiling water to remove slipperiness], Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) [1 liang], Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [0.5 liang, roasted until slightly red and chopped], Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) [3 fen, soak in water, remove white pith, dry-roast].
Crush and sieve the above ingredients into a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add 1 zhan of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until 0.5 zhan remains. Strain and take warm at any time.
For treating cold qi in the heart and diaphragm causing phlegm-fluid retention, chest stuffiness and oppression, occasional expectoration of clear water, and inability to accept food, use Caodoukou San (Cardamomi Fructus Powder).
Caodoukou (Cardamomi Fructus) [1 liang, remove shell], Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) [0.5 liang], Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) [0.5 liang, remove rhizome node], Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) [3 fen], Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [3 fen], Chifuling (Poria Cocos with Red Bark) [0.5 liang], Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [3 fen], Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) [3 fen, processed until cracked, remove skin and bud], Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) [1 liang, remove rough bark, coat with fresh ginger juice, roast].
Crush and sieve the above ingredients into a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add 1 zhan of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until 0.5 zhan remains. Strain and take warm at any time.
For treating cold qi in the chest and diaphragm, phlegm-fluid retention, spontaneous flow of clear water from the mouth, hypochondriac tension and painful distension, and loss of appetite: this is due to deficiency-cold of the Stomach Qi. It is suitable to take Gaoliangjiang San (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma Powder).
Gaoliangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma) [3 fen, chopped], Helilepi (Pericarpium Chebulae) [1 liang], Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [3 fen], Chifuling (Poria Cocos with Red Bark) [3 fen], Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [3 fen, wash seven times with boiling water to remove slipperiness], Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) [3 fen], Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) [1 liang, remove rough bark, coat with fresh ginger juice, roast].
Crush and sieve the above ingredients into a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add 1 zhan of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until 0.5 zhan remains. Strain and take warm at any time.
For treating cold phlegm-fluid retention, Qi stagnation, chest and heart fullness and oppression, and inability to ingest food, use Muxiang San (Costi Radix Powder).
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) [0.5 liang], Chifuling (Poria Cocos with Red Bark) [3 fen], Binglang (Arecae Semen) [0.5 liang], Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) [2-3 fen, chopped], Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) [3 fen, remove rhizome node], Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [3 fen, wash seven times with boiling water to remove slipperiness], Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [1 fen, roasted until slightly red and chopped].
Crush and sieve the above ingredients into a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add 1 zhan of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until 0.5 zhan remains. Strain and take warm at any time.
For treating cold phlegm-fluid retention in the chest, Qi fullness, and loss of appetite for food and drink, use Banxia San (Pinelliae Rhizoma Powder).
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) [1 liang, wash seven times with boiling water to remove slipperiness], Chenjupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) [3 fen, soak in water, remove white pith, dry-roast], Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) [1 liang], Chifuling (Poria Cocos with Red Bark) [1 liang], Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) [3 fen, remove rhizome node], Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [1 liang], Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) [3 fen], Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [3 fen, roasted until slightly red and chopped], Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) [3 fen, processed until cracked and chopped].
