Yin-yin (Overflowing Drink) refers to a condition caused by excessive water intake due to sudden severe thirst, leading to fluid qi overflowing beyond the stomach and intestines and accumulating between the skin. Hence it is called Yin-yin. Its manifestations include body pain and heaviness accompanied by profuse sweating.
The treatment for Yin-yin should employ diaphoresis (inducing sweating). The Baizhu San (Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder) formula is appropriate.
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), 3 fen; Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), 1 liang, roots and joints removed; Chishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), 3 fen; Xuanfu Hua (Inulae Flos), 0.5 liang; Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), 1 liang; Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), 3 fen, ligules removed; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), 3 fen, honey-fried until slightly reddened and chopped; Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), 1 fen; Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), 3 fen, soaked in boiling water, washed seven times to remove slipperiness.
The above herbs are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Each dose consists of 5 qian. Add 1 da zhen (large cup) of water and 0.5 fen of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct until 0.5 zhen remains. Strain the dregs. Take hot without regard to time. Cover with clothing to induce sweating. If no sweat occurs after walking for ten li, administer another dose.
Another prescription:
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), 1 liang, roots and joints removed; Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), 1 liang; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), 0.5 liang, honey-fried until slightly reddened and chopped; Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), 0.5 liang; Shigao (Gypsi Fibrosus), 1 liang; Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), 0.5 liang, soaked in boiling water, skin and tips removed, double-kernel ones stir-bran-fried until slightly yellow.
The above herbs are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Each dose consists of 5 qian. Add 1 da zhen of water, 0.5 fen of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and three Zao (Jujubae Fructus). Decoct until 0.5 zhen remains. Strain the dregs. Take hot without regard to time. Cover with clothing to induce sweating. If no sweat occurs after walking for ten li, administer another dose.
For Yin-yin characterized by phlegm turbidity obstructing the chest and diaphragm, headache, vomiting, and inability to eat or drink, the Banxia San (Pinellia Powder) formula is indicated.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), 1 liang, washed seven times in boiling water to remove slipperiness; Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), 0.5 liang, ligules removed; Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium), 0.5 liang, chopped; Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix), 3 fen, heart removed; Pipaye (Eriobotryae Folium), 0.5 liang, hairs wiped off and fried until slightly yellow; Chifuling (Poria cum Ligno Rubra), 3 fen; Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), 3 fen; Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), 3 fen, ligules removed; Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), 3 fen, stir-bran-fried until slightly yellow, albedo removed.
The above herbs are coarsely sieved and made into a powder. Each dose consists of 5 qian. Add 1 zhen of water and 0.5 fen of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct until 0.5 zhen remains. Strain the dregs. Take warm without regard to time.
For Yin-yin stagnating in the chest and not dispersing, rushing upward to attack the head and face, causing inability to eat or drink, this formula is suitable.
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), 3 fen; Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), 0.5 liang; Chifuling (Poria cum Ligno Rubra), 0.5 liang; Renshen (Ginseng Radix), 0.5 liang, ligules removed; Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), 0.5 liang, ligules removed; Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), 1 liang, washed seven times in boiling water to remove slipperiness; Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), 1 liang, processed until cracked, skin and navel removed.
The above herbs are coarsely sieved and made into a powder. Each dose consists of 5 qian. Add 1 da zhen of water and 0.5 fen of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct until 0.5 zhen remains. Strain the dregs. Take warm without regard to time.
For Yin-yin rushing upward, manifesting as vertigo, dizziness, asthma, and empty distension in the abdomen and hypochondrium, this formula is suitable.
Xuanfu Hua (Inulae Flos), 0.5 liang; Qianniu Zi (Pharbitidis Semen), 0.5 liang, lightly stir-fried; Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), 0.5 liang, soaked in boiling water, skin and tips removed, double-kernel ones stir-bran-fried until slightly yellow.
The above herbs are finely sieved into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take twenty pills with ginger tea without regard to time.
