夫头偏痛者。由人气血俱虚。客风入于诸阳之经。偏伤于脑中故也。又有因新沐之后。

治头偏痛方。
旋复花（半两） 萆 （半两锉） 虎头骨（半两涂酥炙令黄）
上件药。捣细罗为散。欲发时。以温酒调下两钱。衣盖出汗。立瘥。
治夹脑风。及洗头后伤风。头偏痛甚者。宜服此神圣散方。
麻黄（半两去根节） 细辛（半两） 干蝎（半两一半微炒一半生用） 藿香（半两）
上件药。捣细罗为散。不计时候服。用薄荷酒。或荆芥汤。调下一钱。
治头偏痛。白雪丸方。

上件药。以蝉研取汁。都和丸如小豆大。头痛发时。左边痛纳在左鼻中。右边痛纳在右
鼻中
又方。
硫黄（一两） 硝石（一两）
上件药。同研入铫子内。熔作汁。候冷取出。更入石膏末一两。又同研令细。用软粳米
饭。
又方。
生姜汁（二合于瓷器中晒令干为末） 桂心末（一字） 麝香末（一字）
上件药。同研令细。每用少许。吹于鼻中。即瘥。
治头偏痛通顶散方。
硝石（一分） 滑石（一分）
上件药。于铫子内同炒令黄色。候冷。细研为末。每用少许。吹入鼻中瘥。
又方。
蓖麻子（一两去皮）
上烂研绞取汁。于头偏痛处涂之。
Headache on one side of the head is caused by deficiency of both Qi and Blood in the body, allowing pathogenic Wind to invade the Yang meridians, thereby damaging the brain unilaterally. It may also result from sleeping outdoors with wet hair after washing.
Formula for treating unilateral headache:
*Inulae Flos* (Xuanfu Hua, 旋复花) (half liang), *Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma* (Bixie, 萆薢) (half liang, cut into pieces), Tiger Skull Bone (Hutou Gu, 虎头骨) (half liang, coated with su oil and roasted until yellow).
Crush the above ingredients and sift them through a fine sieve to make a powder. When the pain occurs, take two qian mixed with warm wine. Cover with clothing to induce sweating; the condition will be cured immediately.
For treating "Jia Nao Feng" (Wind invading the brain cavity) and severe unilateral headache following exposure to wind after washing hair, it is advisable to take this Shensheng San formula:
*Ephedrae Herba* (Mahuang, 麻黄) (half liang, remove roots and joints), *Asari Radix et Rhizoma* (Xixin, 细辛) (half liang), Dried Scorpion (Ganxie, 干蝎) (half liang, half slightly roasted, half raw), *Agastaches Herba* (Huoxiang, 藿香) (half liang).
Crush the above ingredients and sift them through a fine sieve to make a powder. Take at any time. Mix one qian with Mint Wine or Schizonepeta Decoction and ingest.
Baixue Wan formula for treating unilateral headache:
*Natrii Sulfas* (Xiaoshi, 硝石), *Sulfur* (Liuhuang, 硫黄), *Alumen* (Baifan, 白矾) (each one liang).
Seal the bottle mouth tightly. First add Talcum (Huashi, 滑石), then Sulfur, and finally Alumen. Leave a small hole in the bottle cap. Dig a pit in the ground and bury the bottle so that it is level with the ground surface.
Wujin Wan formula for treating unilateral headache:
*Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* (Zaojiao, 皂荚) (two liang, burned to ash and finely cut), *Gypsum Fibrosum* (Shigao, 石膏) (two liang, finely ground and processed by water flotation).
Grind the above ingredients uniformly. Mix with soft cooked rice to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take five pills each time, washed down with Mint Decoction.
Another prescription:
Sand (Sha, 砂) (one fen, finely ground), Heart of Fermented Soybean (Chixin, 豉心) (one fen, soaked in a little decoction until soft).
Pound and mix the above ingredients to form pills the size of Gleditsiae seeds. Wrap in cotton cloth, leaving one end exposed. If the left side of the head hurts, insert the medicine into the left nostril; if the right side hurts, insert it into the right nostril.
Formula for treating Jia Nao Feng and unilateral headache:
*Sesami Indici Semen* (Yuntaizi, 芸苔子) (one fen), *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang, 大黄) (three fen).
Grind the above ingredients and sift them through a fine sieve to make a powder. Take a small amount and insufflate into the nostrils. When yellow fluid discharges, the disease will be permanently cured. For stubborn numbness, mix with strong vinegar and apply topically.
Formula for unbearable severe unilateral headache:
*Castor Semen* (Bimazi, 蓖麻子) (half liang, peeled), Jujube (Zao, 枣) (fifteen fruits, pitted).
Pound the above ingredients until mushy. Spread on paper, roll up using a chopstick, remove the chopstick, and insert into the nostril. After a while, remove it; clear nasal discharge will occur.
Formula for treating migraines:
*Bitter Bottle Gourd Seed* (Kuhu Lu Zi, 苦葫芦子) (one he), *Curcumae Radix* (Yujin, 郁金) (one piece).
Grind and sift the above ingredients into powder. Wrap one qian of powder in white silk, soak in fresh well water, and drip into the nostril on the affected side. The condition is cured when yellow fluid discharges.
Formula for treating unilateral headache:
*Cryptotympana Praetexta* (Zachan, 蚱蝉) (two insects, used raw), *Boswelliae Resina* (Ruxiang, 乳香) (half liang, finely ground), *Cinnabaris* (Zhusha, 朱砂) (half fen, finely ground).
Pound the cicada to extract its juice. Mix all ingredients to form pills the size of mung beans. When headache occurs, insert into the left nostril if pain is on the left, and into the right nostril if pain is on the right.
Another prescription:
*Sulfur* (Liuhuang, 硫黄) (one liang), *Natrii Sulfas* (Xiaoshi, 硝石) (one liang).
Grind together and melt in a crucible until liquid. Cool and remove. Add one liang of *Gypsum Fibrosum* powder and grind together until very fine. Mix with soft glutinous rice to form pills.
Another prescription:
Ginger Juice (Shengjiang Zhi, 生姜汁) (two he, dried in porcelain vessel to powder), *Cinnamomi Ramulus* (Guixin, 桂心) powder (one zi), *Moschus* (Shexiang, 麝香) powder (one zi).
Grind together until very fine. Insufflate a small amount into the nostrils; cure is immediate.
Tongding San formula for treating unilateral headache:
*Natrii Sulfas* (Xiaoshi, 硝石) (one fen), Talcum (Huashi, 滑石) (one fen).
Stir-fry together in a crucible until yellow. Cool and grind finely into powder. Insufflate a small amount into the nostrils; cure is achieved.
Another prescription:
*Castor Semen* (Bimazi, 蓖麻子) (one liang, peeled).
Pound thoroughly and squeeze out the juice. Apply to the site of unilateral headache.
