Stroke is caused by wind pathogens invading the body due to deficiency of healthy qi. Wind refers to the Qi of the four seasons and eight directions. Typically, on the day of Winter Solstice, one observes the winds from the eight directions; if the wind coming from its corresponding direction (the ruling wind) lingers or behaves abnormally, it may cause disease.
Formulas for Treating Stroke in Women:
Symptoms include slurred speech (Jiansè), spasticity and rigidity of the four limbs, high fever, headache, dizziness, and chest oppression.
Fangfeng San (Saposhnikovia Powder).
Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 1 liang, remove root head); Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 2.5 liang); Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 2 fen, remove root joints); Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 0.5 liang); Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 0.5 liang); Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Chuan Shengma, 0.5 liang); Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo, 0.5 liang); Poria Cocos with Red Hosta Root (Chifuling, 0.5 liang).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Boil with one zhongzhan (unit of volume) of water until reduced to 0.5 zhongzhan. Strain the dregs, add 1 he of Bamboo Juice (Dan Zhuli), boil for one or two more boils. Take warm at any time.

Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 1.5 liang); Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 1 liang); Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 1 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried); Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 2.5 liang); Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 1 liang, remove root joints); Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin, 0.5 liang, slightly yellow).
Coarsely sieve the above ingredients into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Boil with one zhongzhan of water until reduced to 0.6 zhongzhan. Strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.

Coarsely sieve the above ingredients into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Boil with one zhongzhan of water and 0.5 fen of Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) until reduced to 0.6 zhongzhan. Strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.

Pound and juice fresh Euphorbia Lathyris (Xu Suizi), mix with the powder to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds, roll in Calomel (Nifen). Take one pill dissolved in warm wine.
Another Formula:
Realgar (Pishuang, 1 fen); Niter (Xiaoshi, 1 fen).
Grind together finely. Stir-fry in an iron pot until smoke appears moderately, then stop. Cool and grind finely. Take "one zi" mixed with warm wine. Effect is achieved when vomiting occurs.
