Cold consumptive disease in women is caused by deficiency of Qi and blood, emptiness of both exterior and interior, and long-term retention of cold pathogens in the Zang-Fu organs. This leads to indigestion, accumulation in the abdomen, cold pain below the umbilicus, irregular menstruation, soreness and pain in bone joints, weakness in hands and feet, emaciation of muscles and skin, and sallow complexion; hence it is called "cold consumption."
For treating cold consumption in women where Qi attacks the Spleen and Stomach, causing distension and oppression in the abdomen and hypochondrium, disharmony of the four limbs, reduced appetite, and gradual progression to emaciation and debility, use Heheli San (Persimmon Seed Powder).
Heheli Pi (Cortex Terminaliae Chebulae, 1 liang) Nongpou (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, 1 liang, remove coarse bark, apply juice of fresh ginger, roast until fragrant and cooked) Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri, 1 liang, remove seedlings) Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, half liang) Gan Dihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, 3 fen) Renshen (Radix Ginseng, 3 fen, remove rhizome) Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, 1 liang, remove seedlings) Baishao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 3 fen) Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 3 fen) Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, 1 fen, roast until slightly red, cut into small pieces).
The above medicines are pounded into a coarse powder. Each dose is 4 qian. Add one zhong of water, half ban of fresh ginger, and two or three dates. Decoct until six parts remain. Remove the dregs. Take warm at any time.
