Chapter: Formulas for Treating Long-standing Amenorrhea in Women
Category: Formulas
[English Translation]
Regarding cases of long-standing amenorrhea (prolonged absence of menstruation) in women, this condition arises from deficiency and damage to the Zang-Fu organs, exhaustion of Qi and Blood, invasion of Wind-Cold pathogens into the interior of the uterus, and injury to the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel).
For treating long-standing amenorrhea where the duration is many years, dark spots appear on the face resembling ink. The patient constantly craves salty and sour foods, eating them incessantly with a sense of insatiable desire.
Formula:
Tao Ren (Peach Kernel, 1 liang, soaked in decoction, skin and pointed ends removed, double-kernel bran-fried until slightly yellow), Qian Gen (Madder Root, 1.5 liang), Meng Chong (Dragonfly Larva, 14 pieces, lightly fried, wings and legs removed), Shui Zhi (Leech, 2 liang, chopped and lightly fried).
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong (unit of volume) of water, boil down to 6 fen (fraction), remove dregs, and take warm on an empty stomach. After walking the distance equivalent to 10 li, take another dose.
For treating long-standing amenorrhea persisting for several years, accompanied by emaciation and poor appetite, where other formulas have failed, the Gui Jian San (Arrowwood Powder) formula is suitable.
