In women, swelling of the yin (external genitalia) is caused by deficiency and damage combined with invasion of wind pathogenic factors. The collateral vessels of the uterus are deficient, allowing wind pathogens to lodge within. Wind qi invades the yin region and contends with blood and qi.
For treating menstrual stagnation and obstruction in women, accompanied by swelling and pain in the yin, use Changpu San (Acorus Powder):
Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii (1 liang), Radix Angelicae Sinensis (1 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried), Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae (3 fen), Fructus Evodiae (0.5 liang, soaked in water seven times, dried, and lightly stir-fried).
Crush the above ingredients into a coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose, add one zhongzhan of water and five cun of scallion white, decoct until reduced to six-tenths, strain, and take warm before meals.
For treating swelling or ulceration of the yin in women, wash with Mahuang Decoction:
Herba Ephedrae (3 liang, roots removed), Rhizoma Coptidis (2 liang, sliced), Fructus Cnidii (2 liang), Fructus Mume (1 piece).
Finely slice the above ingredients, decoct in one dou of water until reduced to five sheng, strain, and wash the area while slightly warm. Avoid wind and cold carefully.
For unbearable swelling and pain in the yin of women:
Radix Saposhnikoviae (3 liang), Radix Euphorbiae Lathyris (2 liang), Folium Artemisiae Argyi (5 liang).
Finely slice the above ingredients, decoct in two dou of water until reduced to five sheng, strain, and wash while slightly warm. This may be done three times daily. Avoid wind and cold.
For hard and painful swelling of the yin in women, use Baifan San (Alum Powder):
Alumen (0.5 liang), Radix Glycyrrhizae (0.5 liang, raw), Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (1 fen, raw).
Pulverize the above ingredients finely. Take an amount the size of a jujube kernel, wrap in cotton, and insert into the yin. Replace twice daily.
Another prescription:
Fructus Aurantii (0.5 liang).
Crush and stir-fry until hot. Wrap in old cloth and apply as a hot compress to the affected area. Replace when cool.
Another prescription:
Radix Phytolaccae (1 jin, sliced).
Decoct in one dou of water until reduced to five sheng. Wash while slightly warm, three times daily.
Itching of the yin in women is caused by parasitic worms. Three types of parasites reside between the intestines and stomach; due to visceral deficiency, these parasites become active and erode the yin, causing itching and heat sensations.
For treating yin itching in women, use Dahuang San (Rhubarb Powder):
Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (1 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried), Radix Scutellariae (1 liang), Radix Paeoniae Rubra (0.5 liang), Radix Scrophulariae (0.5 liang), Radix Astragali (1 liang, sliced), Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae (1 liang).
Pulverize the above ingredients finely. Take 2 qian mixed with warm wine before meals.
For dampness and itching in the yin of women:
Rhizoma Coptidis (2 liang), Semen Coicis (1 liang), Radix Glycyrrhizae (1 liang, raw and sliced), Cortex Phellodendri (1 liang, sliced).

Bile of Python bivittatus (1 liang), Realgar (1 liang, finely ground), Sulfur (1 liang, finely ground), Cinnabar (1 liang, finely ground), Natrii Nitras (1 liang), Radix Veratri (1 liang).
Pulverize and sieve the above ingredients, mix thoroughly. Combine with lard from the twelfth lunar month to form a paste. Form into tampons using old cloth, approximately finger-thick and one-and-a-half cun long, and insert the medicated tampon.
Another prescription:
Allium macrostemon Bulb (as needed).
Boil in water to make a decoction. Wash while slightly warm, three times daily.

Cortex Lycii (2 jin, finely sliced).

For yin itching in women resembling the sensation of crawling insects:
Remove fat from hen liver. Insert while warm into the yin. If parasites are present, they will be expelled completely.
For yin itching in women with a sensation of parasites, accompanied by restlessness and irritability, use Huangdan San (Lead Tetroxide Powder):
Natrii Plumbi Oxidum (1 liang), Alumen (3 fen), Radix Ligustici Chuanxiong (1 liang).
Pulverize the above ingredients. Place in a grain sack and insert into the yin. Parasites will naturally exit.
For yin itching in women resembling parasitic infection, accompanied by swollen eyes, yellow complexion, leukorrhea with bleeding, and shortness of breath, use this prescription:
Take a fresh carp one chi long, remove head and flesh, retain bones. Roast until charred, pulverize, and mix with lard. Take half a liang, place in a silk bag, shape like a finger.
For yin itching in women resembling parasitic infection:
Take ox liver, cut a three-cun segment, and insert into the yin to draw parasites out into the liver. Pig liver may also be used.
